i skipped the plate since it added vibration, but you can road test it and if no vibration then i'd just leave it.

ok i'll see if it's ok like that. if not, it's just a 20 minute-job
so it's correct with the 4 shims betweens the plate and the mount?

Hmmm, I don't remember getting any shims with my mount when I bought it. I also can't remember if I used the preload plate or not. I don't think I did if I remember correctly. Really all you need is the two bolts and a couple of lockwashers for good measure. Reuse your original tailhousing bolts since the 700r4 uses metric bolts and Energy suspension usually gives you SAE bolts to use.

reinstalled the mount today without plate and shims. i don't get any vibration, it's just all a bit louder. but somehow, my exhaust is higher than before. it touches the rabbet at the unterside from the door sill now. after the y-pipe before the cat... (hope you understand what i'm trying to explain) sometimes it sounds like the hole exhaust is coming apart
2nd problem: i get a pretty loud bang when i drive and let the clutch slip quick without giving gas. i thought it's the trans mount, but it isn't. anyone know what that could be?

could be u-joints, cheap to replace if they haven't been touched in years.

Sounds like the new mount put your exhaust too close to the underbody. You could go to an exhaust shop and have them do some work to your pipes so that they're sitting a little lower, or if you want to try and fix it yourself, you could always stack up a few washers on the four bolts between your frame rails and the tranny crossmember. This would lower it back down some too.

um... to adjust the exhaust position just mess with the rubber mount at the end of the cat. it's simple compaired to the crossmember idea with the washers. and doesn't take as long to do. as for your u-joints push up on them while your under there, if they wiggle you know they are bad. if your hearing a bang then they probably wiggle alot.

ok thx. i will order 2 new u-joints these days. they are propably 15 years old like the trans mount
could it be, that the new mount doesn't squeeze like the old one and now the transmission and everything else is higher than before? i can't lower the exhaust, cause it's 3" and everything is welded together
nebu.

There may be enough play in the system to allow dropping the exhaust some, using the hanger.

For what the info's worth, the Camaro Parts and Illustration Catalog shows that transmission-mount shims (which look like the plate) were used with all motors 82-86 and 87-89 with the LB8. After 89, the catalog doesn't show the shims any longer. I used the shim/plate on my 85 without ill effect.

trans mount
I put in a poly mount from energy a few weeks ago with the plate, works great, I was reading a article from super chevy I believe, it was a special on replacing trans mounts and torque arm mounts on the third gens, very informative and a life saver for the half witted. It worked for me and I replaced both bushing's, no more slapping and the car launche's way better! Well worth the thirty some odd bucks for both the bushings. Although when youdo the torque arm your gonna have to undo the two big bolts that secure the torquearm from the rearend and assemble from front to rear, trying to get those clam shells together any other way is virtually impossible.
