need help with a Manual swap
I've got this nifty T-5 transmission, it's brand new. never installed, cryo'ed internals, World Class transmission, (it was ordered for a 91 camaro). My problem is this. I don't have any of the bolts for it. like, I don't have the ones for the mount to bolt on to the trans, or the trans to the bellhousing, or the slave to the bellhousing. anybody happen to know what sizes, thead counts, etc. i need? I'm kinda screwed at this point. as soon as i buy a clutch I'm ready to start, and so far, all i have is bolts for the bellhousing to the motor. also, I need bolts for the flywheel to the crank. can i get those at napa or something?

i think I may take you up on that next week. i have a helms manual, and it helps, but stuff like this is the kinda things you don't think about. thanks a bunch
----------
my next question... do any of these have washers or nuts that go with them? or do they all just screw into the bellhousing?

no nuts either? i found out i can get these through a GM dealer. they're going to cost an arm and a leg, but it may be worth it. I'm also going to go to home depot and see if i can find any of these in grade 8 bolts. thanks for all the help!

If you want a cheaper alternative than the new GM bolts, just go to a junkyard and find a V6 car with a T5 trans and snag the bolts you need from it. I didn't have any bolts when I started rounding up the parts for my 5 speed swap, and this is what I did to get most of them. The trans to bellhousing bolts and the slave cylinder bolts are the same on the V6 manual cars, which seem to plentiful in the junkyards here at least. Of course Home Depot or any bolt and nut supply place would probably be a lot cheaper than the GM dealer as well.

absolutely. I may do this, being that i need a driveshaft. however, since i have most of the sizes above, i can go buy them new from some hardware store. the only thing i'm looking for is the nuts that hold the slave cylinder on. there has to be some nuts there, because when i mocked up everything outside the car, there's no threads in the bellhousing or the slave cylinder for the bolts.... so I need to track those down. but other than that, I'm on my way. I have to re-ring my motor (!@$!^%&^*&%&^*$&##$%@#^#@#$^#^^&!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so it's coming out. I think this is going to be easier than i thought from a swap perspective.

I believe that you're missing a part, which, IIRC, is threaded: Shield, Clu Actr Cyl Ht (GM 14075712).
You'll get the idea from the following pics:

I got confused by the same thing until I got my hands on a factory slave cylinder shield. It has the two nuts welded to the bracket. The bolts that fit it are a metric thread. Can't remeber the exact thread size, but it is metric.

yeah, I'm now desperately looking through ebay, gmpartsdirect, and the classifieds here to see if i can find one. I start re-ringing my motor this week, and next week, the tranny goes in with the motor. and then i also need a driveshaft. looks like i'm heading to the JY sooner.
You can always just use bolts, lockwashers, and nuts if you end up in a pinch without the shield. I've seen several manual cars in the junkyards where the owners ended up rigging them that way. The shield is nice to have, but not totally necessary.

Probably not, but the slave is plastic. By the way, fly, finding an iron drive shaft shouldn't be difficult (thousands were made). You might enquire about the alum version for the heck of it.

I'm doing the same thing to my car as well. I have an 88 iroc. I bought my parts off of ebay and most of what i needed was included in the package except for the nuts for the u bold on the mastercylinder for the clutch and the left side brace and now I'm having trouble finding out where to drill the hole for the master cylinder in the firewall. If anyone has a pic that shows where the cylinder mounts in the engine bay I would greatly appreciate it

I may have to engineer it that way. i'd prefer not to, but se la vi. I'm going to the JY on weds or thurs. after i pull my engine, so I'll look for it then. I'll grab the shield and all the bolts i need. i found a guy local who's getting rid of a driveshaft. I'll look for an Al driveshaft while i'm there though.

while I'm thinking about it, my tranny doesn't have anywhere to put a speedo cable, and it only has one hookup on the side of the gear box itself. i assume the hole back near the tailshaft is where the VSS goes, but does it use a VSS or can i get a mechanical driven piece? if it uses a VSS, do i buy a gear for the vss and stick it in? or do i jsut buy a VSS and stick it in? i see a drive gear, but i lack a driven.

aaaah, but you see I have an 82. it's mechanical. and i see on the tranny where the sleeve and driven go, there's just a little plastic cap covering the hole. the hookup i'm referring to is in the middle of the gearbox. it's a 2-pin connector in a brass piece that screws into the tranny. is this for my NSS? or my reverse lights? as for my inherent speedo issue, I'm either going to use an 86 T/A cluster, or go by an autometer unit and be done with it.

will the little housing with the driven gear from my th350 fit my T-5? if so, I'll use it. I'm sure the gears are all different....
I'm pretty sure the TH350 mechanical speedo bullet is the same style as the T5. I know for a fact that the speedo bullet from the old muncie and saginaw 4 speed trannys are the same as the T5.

then it's the same
cuz i know for a fact that the muncie/saginaw bullets fit a TH350. now to figure out the gears.... my TH350 gears are correct for my tranny. maybe they'll fit?
