You can do it. I prefer the superior valve.

GM part #8673948 (B-Car Fix) allows a full throttle upshift into OD. It is easy to install especially if you are installing a shift kit.

As for the pump seal, check the snout on the torque converter to make sure there is no groove worn into it, if there is a groove, the TC will have to be replaced along with the seal.

Both are easy jobs once the tranny is out.

EDIT: The "B-Car Fix" from the GM parts counter cost me $19 and some change. Also, your engine has to have the power to attain its shift point in third gear in order to upshift into 4th. My Trans Am shifted stock at 4500rpm with a 2.73 gear. That means I would have had to (car completely stock) get to 128 mph before it would upshift into 4th gear.

The GM valve is discontinued and is now obsolete, unfortunately. I bought the last 8 valves that remained in dealers stock across the country.
They were a great value. GM always gets rid of the good stuff

i prefer the transgo version of this modification but it requires removing the valve body.

Well, I am glad I got mine when I did!

I purchased it 2 years ago, did they discontinue it recently?

About last september or so. I paid $35 or so for each one that I bought once shipping was factored in. Still a fair price considering what the aftermarket charges.

Is this the same as the .500 Boost valve? I got one in this performance rebuild kit that i bought from Monster Transmission. I want my transmission to upshift a WOT.

no its not the same thing....i have a .500boost valve and i dont have 4th wot shifts. i think the .500 valve raises line pressure so you get a stronger quicker shift!

You can make the changes to the TV plunger sleeve, without removing the valve body. You will need to block the two part throttle downshift holes in the TV plunger sleeve with two small allen screws. This will give you the 3-4 WOT shift, and will allow you to hold 4th gear at high speeds. The cost of two allen screws is about $0.34. You will need a dremel grind the allen screws to clear the bore and allow the plunger to move freely.

I would like to try this idea first but i have a few qs for ya...if i do it this way i want to make sure its the right way....i dont want a allen screw to fall out in the trans!! do you have to tap threads for the allen screws in the plunger? also do you have anyidea what size screws work the best? almost free mods are always good!!

Here's the TV plunger sleeve mod in detail. I plan on doing it when I do a rebuild.
