700r4 Tranny Problem

My transmission will not do anything in any of the gears when i step on the gas. No matter what gear i put it in, it will only rev but not go anywhere. Does anybody know what the problem might be and maybe how to fix it?

First confirm that the shifter cable and linkage is firmly attached and properly adjusted. Next, take the cover off of the bottom of the torque converter area and be sure that all 3 15 mm bolts are tight and holding the torque converter firmly to the flexplate. If this checks, you have a bad trans, torque converter or both.

I broke the gear in the front pump and it acted the same way. It is a common problem on 700r4's. I dont know the proper way to check it, but if you dont see the two teeth in your front pump after pulling your tc, could be your problem

Im thinking about just pulling the tranny and looking at it from there. I found a 700r4 for it but it is out of a 6 cylinder. Will this work in it. Are there any differences between a v8 and v6 700r4?

Re: 700r4 Tranny Problem

I took the cover off and could not find the three bolts floor guy was talking about. Where exactly are they. I also noticed that the linkage has very slight side to side movement. Is this normal

Re: 700r4 Tranny Problem

The bolts hes talking about is what holds the TC to the flexplate. When u take that inspection cover off you will see ur flexplate and teh TC. In the middle are (3) bolts. Make sure they are in taact. Sometimes they can break off. Also try to spin the convertor. It will be tough, but try. The TC and the flexplate should turn together. If they dont u have a problem.

NO!
When the engine is running, the converter will be spinning 600 rpms or more.Sticking your hand in there will tear it off
Do Not take this the wrong way.
In the name of safety, I suggest towing the car to a shop and getting a pro diagnosis.
The automatic transmission is the most complicated piece of equiptment on the car, thus not easily repaired or serviced by the average guy.
Without having the basic understaning of the parts, and how they work, you could be badly injured trying to diagnose it.
Safety first.

Also as i said before, the linkage has very slight side to side movement. Is this normal. I tried tightening it and couldnt get it any tighter.

The factory bolts had 15 mm heads and were aprox 3/4" long. If you need some let me know. I have some lying around.
