You look at it while you're replacing the fluid, like needs to be done.

Re: what gears are in my car?

Only the RS and the Firebird in 1991 were offered the 3.1L V6.

The manual transmission cars got 3.42 gears. Automatic transmission cars got 3.23 gears.

Looks like yours has 3.23 gears.

Re: what gears are in my car?

if i was u i would just go to a junk yard and get a rear axle off of a v8 cars. i had a friend who put a 350 in to his car and had a 3.8L rear end. well the out come of that was he had to change the fluids on it ever two week or so. that and ur better off doing so just for the fact that the v8 rear end can hold more torq then a v6

Really!?!?!?!?! How so?

They are absolutely identical in every way, part number for part number; except of course for the 9-bolt in some V8 cars, which doesn't apply to the model year in question.

The only differences are posi (the 6-cyl cars never got it, but a few of the V8 ones did) and brakes (the 6-cyl cars are all drums, but some V8s got discs).

Re: what gears are in my car?

The main difference between a V6 and V8 diff is the gear ratio offered for each. Other than that there is no such thing as a V8 or V6 diff.
