T5 Problem
T5 Problem
Well... to start off with I'm a complete noob with manuals transmissions... so don't laugh too hard
Yesterday I parked the car, pushed the clutch to put car in gear (engine was off). The first 1/2" or so of movement felt fine, but then it felt like something just gave way and the pedal went straight to the floor. It still comes back up but the clutch is not disengaging. I checked the linkage at the pedal and it is still intact. What should I do? Please explain in simplest terms possible... pics also a bonus!!!!

Re: T5 Problem
Well.... I think I found my problem. There is a plastic line that runs from somewhere under the brake booster (I'm guessing the cluctch master cylinder?) to the bell housing area (slave cylinder?). The previous owner installed long tube headers and did not think that having this line rub on them would be a problem. Well it was and it busted big time. I can see where the line connects up top (barely) and it looks like there is a very small allen bolt on the side of the line. Is this what releases the line and if so does any know what size it is? I have yet to jack up the car and crawl under, the jack I have now is too tall to fit under the car
Can anyone point me in the right direction here with getting the top of the line free or tell me what to expect once I get this beast in the air?

the headers burned through the line between the master cylinder (at your feet) and the slave cylinder (at the clutch fork).
Usually the hydraulics are sold as a complete unit, prebled and not meant for disassembly. However, if you want to you can buy a braided line and alum. slave cylinder from summit or some such place, and not have to worry about those headers. I'm not sure how to disassemble it though, sorry.

Re: T5 Problem
I got some more information today. Apparently the line comes out by pushing it in and driving the small pin out. The line is discontinued but you can still get the whole master/slave assembly. List price is $207, part number is 1252-7718. GMpartsdirect.com sells it for $124.56... take the dash out when searching for it on the site. This is for an '86. Does anyone know if these assemblies were the same on all 3rd gens or do different years have different set-ups?

i am not totally sure, but i think they are all the same and interchangeable. i have a unit from an early 4th gen with the braided line and an aluminum slave and it all seems to fit fine.

Are you still running a T5 or did you go t-56? Do you happen to recall what year it came out of? Do you have a part number?
Sorry for all the questions.... but that is exactly what I've been looking for for the last week or so.
