Transgo problem

Bear in mind that this is second hand.

I am at school for the semester, so I gave my mechanic the go ahead to install the transgo kit into my car. He is familiar with shift kits and a very competent guy. (Although not a tranny specialist)

Heres the deal.

He installed the shift kit as per directions. Took it out for a test drive, ssaid it was shifting beautifully. He drove it about 4 miles. He then went to turn around and head back... It then suddenly wouldnt shift normally, preferring to hang in gear with any throttle, only shifting with the foot off the gas.

What could cause this?
He removed the valvebody twice and double checked the kit installation.

I am looking to figure out what this could be so that I can give him some direction, and possibly even fix it myself. He has a spare valve body that he ordered when it wouldnt shift (no charge). He says that he is ready to just put it back to how it was and give it back to me. (which I don't want)

What would cause it to hang in gear with the transgo? I was wondering if something got stuck in the governor somehow.

HELP!!!!!

Re: Transgo problem

I was waiting for you to chime in!

I'll ask him about that when I talk to him tomorrow. What would make it suddenly stop though, just the tv cable seating and then needing to be reset?

Re: Transgo problem

I just bought the Transgo kit aswell... how much gain can I expect as far as my quarter mile time? I run about 14.6 now... they're installing it as we speak because at the drag strip I blew out the transmission, so I'm havnig them install the kit while they rebuild the tranny.

Re: Transgo problem

Anybody have any ideas? I'm stumped. I'll call my mechanic and mention the possible causes (stuck governor, tv plunger or cable misaligned)

Re: Transgo problem

Ive had it not shift B4 until you let off the accelerator. Either it was a stuck spool valve in the valve body or the TV cable improperly set. IMO, drop the pan and verify the TV is operating (maybe it broke off the end, IDK) as it should fully, do the TV cable reset and verify again its proper. If all that looked good and it is now reset correctly, then move on to a possible VBody spool valve stuck. Im assuming its happening in all gears?

Re: Transgo problem

as far as I know.

I really need to drive it so I can accurately get the symptoms, but it is 2 hours away

He did say that he has rebuilt the valve body twice, with no change.

Re: Transgo problem

He also stated that it didnt have much holding power in gear... it would slip a little.

beginning to sound like a TV problem to me.

Re: Transgo problem

Ok. I got home and was able to drive the car. Here are the symptoms, (first person)

It will hang in gear about 2 seconds too long. It also shifts softly, but not too softly. All gears work.

Downshift DOES NOT WORK. If you are in third and floor it, it will downshift and rev like neutral. There is no gear engagement on a downshift.

I can't open the cover today. I adjusted the TV cable at the throttle body, and it adjustied normally. It is certainly connected inside the transmission. (the cable is about 4 months old.)

Re: Transgo problem

Definately sound like a TV circuit issue. Gonna need to drop the pan and visualize its function. Do you have the TGo instructions?
