ls1 driveshaft questions

ls1 driveshaft questions

how many weights are on a ls1 driveshaft? I just got one and making sure everything is good before i install it. theres a sticker on the shaft with this number 12564004 is this the right one?

Weights?? Depends if it needed balanced. I don't have the p/n but if it is a LSi 3" dia aluminum dr shaft there is only one the other is steel. Also it will fit any 3rd gen except some V6 cars.

If its used then it should already be balanced.

yeah im just making sure all the weights are on there. theres one on there making sure there isnt suppose to be more

one way to find out is to put it in and c how it feels. Its not hard to swap a driveshaft it takes what 10 to 15 min and 4 bolts

If a weight is missing, you'll see where it was located on the d/s. My experience with JG1 shafts was that there was always one or two weights. Though I had 60+ of these in my possession at one time or another, I only remember a couple that had missing weights. If I were guessing (and I am), I'd say you were good to go.

anybody kno how to knock the u joints out of these driveshafts they have the plastic stick threw them the steel driveshafts i heat them to get the ujoints out not sure if i can do the same to aluminum

they are too short for the early 200c and the 4 speeds. the t-5 and the 700r4 they will fit. v6 or v8 doesn't matter.





you use a torch to melt the plastic like you do the steel ones.

I have a 1990 IROC-Z with the 5.7 motor, 700r tran. and the 9 bolt borgwarner rear end. I have a aluminum drive shaft with a three rivers sticker on it with a part #12564004 will it fit my car?
