My tranny was leaking from the front seal area for a while, I kept fluid in it & it ran & shifted well, it only leaked when the car was running.

The other day it just stopped shifting to 3rd it just revs, it shifts fine from 1st to 2nd, also reverse works fine also.

I cant go over 20 mph in 2nd, it just revs.

It shifts to 2nd at 10 mph & stops pulling at 20 mph.

When it stopped shifting, it also stopped leaking fluid as well, it is full of fluid.

What do u guys think the problem may be?

if you manualy shift it you can go up to redline in second gear, lol, its not fun but you can go faster than 20, mine burned up to, it had a leak and i was to lazy to fix it, and it got to low one day and buned up that band, on the plus side you can get the tranny build bad as can be like i did

 

I agree, rebuild time.

strange that you only get to 20 though, when mine blew I could still get it up to 50 mph in second gear without trying too hard...you've either got some crazy rearend gears or you're not making much power.

or your second gear could be screwed too, i suppose.

 

if he has @nd, the band survived. not having 3rd and 4th is the 3-4 clutch pack.

might try checking the governor first. when they go bad, strange things happen but most likeley it is the 3/4 clutch pack.

 

same story here. i noticed some fluid on the front of the pan 2 weeks ago, i checked the fluid daily anf it dodn't get any lower. now, today i'm driving homw from work cruising at 50 and 4th slips out, then third. so i'm stuck blasting up to 55 in second and coasting in neutral from light to light. someone please tell me this isn't gonna cost me my paint job i've been saving for. Or ,failing that, maybe estimate how long it should take for a shop to rebuild it.

 

a shop should be able to rebuild a 700r4 in a day or two depending on parts availability.

 

anyone know how much $$$ to fix it.
