700r4 car bucks when u take off fast
when i first got this car last summer it would take off fast and hard at wot but after a few seconds at wot it would lose all power while the rpms would keep climbing and if u backed off the gas a little it would grab again. now sometimes when i floor it or take off fast it bucks a bunch of times till i back off the gas. am i screwed? is my tranny about done? i have also never noticed the tranny go into lock up it does under 3k rpm at 60mph but im not sure if it goes into lock up or not. its a 84 firebird with a 305. probably shouldnt drive it anymore right?im concerned about the tranny going on me suddenly

Doesn't sound like anything to do with the transmission.
Sounds like fuel delivery.... running out of gas at the injectors. The pump/lines/filter can't keep up with the engine's demand.
Try a new fuel filter. Then change that out too while you're under there doing the filter. No sense in driving around for years with something you ALREADY KNOW is bad, that only costs pennies and takes seconds to fix.

Sounds like you might have a fuel delivery problem like sofa said, but the RPMs increaseing while acceleration is decreasing does sound like the transmission is slipping. What does the ATF look like and when was the last time the filter was changed?
Re: 700r4 car bucks when u take off fast
looked fine last time i checked, its not fuel delivery, rpms stay or go up.

Ok how many miles are on the vehicle? Also have you ever changed the filter in the tranny?

Change the fuel filter anyway.
You might get a surprise.
Change the trans mount while you're under there.

i used to work for gm and i can't begin to tell you how many times a customer would come in thinking that their trans. was shot and turned out to be something less drastic. i have had plugged fuel filters cause exactly what you are describing. i have also had a weak fuel pump cause my 87 iroc to buck and hesitate under wot or a heavy load. the pump could not provide what the engine needed. if the trans. fluid is full and doesn't smell burnt i would look in another place for your problem. to see if your lock up is working go down the road at a cruising speed where you think lock up should occur. keep a constant speed and with your other foot apply the brake slightly just enough to turn on your brake lights. watch your rpm's. if you notice a slight drop (100-300rpm) then the converter was locked up.
