T5 Release Bearing Question
Do the release bearings just sit in the pressure plate and are held on by the shift fork? Because i don't see any other way to attach it.
I'm used to my old T56 setup where there was a c-clip or ring that held it against tabs.
Picture would be great.
Thanks!

Re: T5 Release Bearing Question
Yup, that's about it....
Make sure you put it on the fork correctly.

The clutch gear bearing retainer, part of the trans, goes through the middle of it, and holds it in place. Put a small amount of some kind of thick grease around the inside of it; moly grease or the like.

Not like this:

Seems like the way i wanted to install it the service manual looks like it just sits on input shaft and on top of the pressure plate fingers.
I'm not used to these T5s!
I'm just trying to make this complicated, obviously the 2nd way i posted would not work...but ya just thinking too much.
Should i just place the TO bearing on the input shaft once i slide the transmission in then slide the shift fork over?

Re: T5 Release Bearing Question
Yup, the 1st one is right.... until the trans goes in, it looks like it just sits there and flops around. Once the trans is in though, it's held absolutely positively in place.
Look at the front of the trans, and the surface that sits against the BH, and the stuff sticking out the front, and how far everything is from the BH mounting surface, and imagine all of that stuff sliding that far through the throwout; I don't think you'll have too much trouble seeing how it works.
No; it should look like your pic #1, and THEN put the trans in. Once the trans is in, no further assembly or disassembly is possible. IOW if you don't put it all together right before you put the trans in, you'll have to take the trans back out to fix it.
