I'm picking up a 98 LS1 rear end, i've sorted out all the brake issues and whatnot, but I was wondering about the rear sway bar? will I have to use a 4th gen rear sway, or can I still use the stock third gen?

i'm using an 86 iroc rear sway bar on my LS1 axle. Bolts right in and matches mount points and all. Not sure if you can even use the 4th gen ones or if there is anything beneficial to it.
thats good to hear, I dont really want to have to pick a new sway bar, the one I currently have is in great condition.

yea your good to go, i haven't read of anyone using a 4th gen one...although i'm not sure of any of the diameters used for 4th gens or if they would even match up relatively enough to be used. Someone else might be able to say whether or not they can be used, but i can confirm that you can use your 3rd gen one.

What diameters do the 4th gens get?
I don't think a 4th gen sway bar is the same as a 3rd, I don't think you can use it. I used my stock 91 sway bar on my LS1 rear just fine.

just did a lil search, it appears you can use a 4th gen rear sway bar (not mandatory!!!) but apparently 3rd gens got bigger bars?! not positive, there was no other definitive answer other than yes you can use them. Front bars are a no can do though!
when i picked up the rear end this weekend, the guy gave me a 4th gen sway bar with it, so i'll have to put some measuring calipers up to it when i get it back home and see what the diameter is. if its bigger than the one i've got, i'm going to use it. :-)

The 4th gen sway bar will fit,I know because that's what I have on my rear end, they come in different diameters just like the 3rd gen.

much smaller ... especially when compared to the WS6 swaybars .. ie the 24mm rear ones
