Hughes Performance 700r4
Hey everyone, i bought a brand new hughes performance tranny and i am having some questions that i was hoping you guys could help me with. I put it down ito low gear and punch the throttle to the floor and it hesisatates ( i believe thats a carb prob. ) and away i go, lots of power and when i get to the shift point 5600 it automatically shifts into the next great, EVEN THO I NEVER SHIFTED, i let off the throttle and it down shifts as well on its own. I am clue less, the engine is a crate motor and the tranny is brand new, carb is brand new, please help.

Re: Hughes Performance 700r4
so what your saying is that your AUTOMATIC trans is shifting AUTOMATICLY? i fail to see the problem
On the other hand, you may have forgotten to include an important piece of data in that you have a performance valve body? manual valve body or something.
Where is the gear selector when this happens? in D or in 1?
what is the trans supposed to be/have?
as for the carb, it needs to be tuned. Its not an edelbrock it is?

yes it is shifting automatically. and it is automatic. But when the car is in low gear (1 ) it shouldnt shift until i do. When the car is down shifted it becomes sort of a manual. It is is all the way down in 1 and shift out when rpms get high enough. the carb is a holley.
Re: Hughes Performance 700r4
That is normal. To get it to stay in any gear you select you need the trans go shift kit. That will hold any gear you select to any rpm.

If you leave your trans in drive what are the full throttle shift points?

Re: Hughes Performance 700r4
bad news, the tranny blew. its under warrenty but what a pain in the *** to pull it back out now. i was un aware that just setting the detent cable was not enough . i was told by A&T tranny garage here in niles that setting the detent cable only gets it close to the shift points on a 700r4 that i needed to have it fine tuned at a shop. so now im in the process of pulling out the tranny sending it off to arizona for it to be repaired by hughes and then shipped back and reinstalled. what a pain.
