reinstalling tranny, not enough room
reinstalling tranny, not enough room
Gentlemen,
I'm trying to reinstall the tranny after replacing the clutch on a my son's 2000 Camaro. I know it's not a third, but It is my sons car. The problem is there is not enough room between the body of the car and the engine to get the shaft of the tranny thru the hole of the splines of the pressure plate. We have tried jacking the front of the motor up to lower the back of the engine to no avail. Any suggestions or tricks?
Thanks for your help fellas, I really need it.

Try bolting the bellhousing on first, then bolting the tranny to the bellhousing.

The tranny had a slave cylinder that we had to remove the bellhousing to install. There would be no way install the slave cylinder, if we were to bolt the bellhousing on first. Right?

T5? We can get to the two bolts that hold the slave cylinder onto the bell housing on my son's '91 RS, but maybe the 4th gens are different.
It is kind of hard to push back against the bellhousing to get the bolt started again but we've done it a couple times now.

if your sons car is an LS1 w/ a t56 then the front plate should be notched so that the bell can be put on first, then the tranny w/ slave cylinder.
Re: reinstalling tranny, not enough room
Well, the idea of installing the bell first won't work because theres no way to install the slave cylinder. The slave has to be bolted to the trans, and theres not enough room for it to clear the hole in the bell if not slid over the shaft, bolted to the trans , then the bell bolted on.
I can't think of another way except to somehow raise the body from the chassis. I know they have to do this job a thousand times a year on a 2000 camaro withe a v6 five speed. Mine can't be the only teenager to shred his first clutch.
It has to be easier than this GRRRHHH!

I have a 99 LS1 T56 car that I did a clutch install on myself. All I did was let the engine hang on it own weight and I didnt have a problem installing it with te bell houseing on. Here is the install manual I used.
