Change the fluid and filter. I had the same problem, it ended up being some gunk stuck in the valves.

Try shifting it manually till you fix it.

What was going on when it started happening? sounds like a tv cable adjusted wrong. did it happen when "JIFFY LUBE" changed the tranny fluid? if so they prolly tried to re-adjust it "as a favor to the customer" to make you think they did something special and messed it up.

Re: tranny wont switch please help

you likely have a sticking THROTTLE VALVE in the valve body its a common problem with the 700r4. Likely the fluid and filter change loosened up some debris and it got in there, Its the risk of servicing a high mileage that hasn't been kept serviced. And no its not the service centers fault its just a risk like I said of doing a service.

Re: tranny wont switch please help

Well you at least have to pull the valve body and see if the throttle valve is stuck

Re: tranny wont switch please help

you might want to try your TV cable first befor you go diving into the valve body. if the TV cable moves freely then most likely your throttle valve is stuck. Jiffy Lube probably used BG trans cleaner and it churned up all the sediment and the Throttle valve ran over the sediment and stuck. if you want to do it yourself there are some good videos on you tube.

this is a link for removing the valve body on a 4L60E which is just an electronic 700r4. just ignore all the electronic stuff.

Re: tranny wont switch please help

no i dont think jiffy lube has anything to do with it.

i took it there months ago.

the thing that happened was that i had a tranny leak and i ran out of tranny fluid and the way i noticed was when one day i took my car out and it wouldnt shift out of 1st till i put tranny fluid and then it didnt shift normally n e more

and to this day my car shifts out of first till i reach 30 and out of second when i reach 50 and no O/D its killing my mpg

i also checked my TV cable and it all seems to be tight i really dont know what the problem is please help someone!!!

Re: tranny wont switch please help

Most likely trash has gotten in your THROTTLE VALVE and caused it to stick. Unfortunately while you could pull the valve body and clean and unstuck it more than likely this is and indication of another problem failure in progress, Your likely going to need a trans very soon
