Re: engine removal help

something has to be holding it somewhere. It could be in the motor mount. It could be exhaust. If you cant see anything even after looking very very thourghly, then take a long pry bar and see what you can do to nudge it loose.
its pretty simple, something is still connected or its hitting something. Find it and solve it.

Re: engine removal help

Try checking the bolts from the flywheel to the torque converter. We removed them when took out my 305 to replace it with the 350. This may not be the problem but worth a shot. Good Luck

Re: engine removal help

3rd Gen said it perfect. Every Chevy I have pulled has involved a crowbar. It's just that they have been in there so long stuff gets sticky. Another trick that i used is make sure you take the radiator out and put something in front of the block. Then back up the cherry picker about 6-8 inches so its pulling at an angle when the car starts to lift shat the &^$^% left and right and it should give way. Let me know how it goes.

Re: engine removal help

Six (6) transmission to engine bolts
Three (3) converter to flywheel bolts
Two (2) motor mount bolts
Four (4) exhaust flange to manifold bolts

2-3 ground to head/intake wires depending on year/type

Oh and make sure you remove the little clip that holds the tranny cooler lines to the pan or else they'll be sproinged up into the air when you're done.

Looks like you're pulling eng/tranny together? If you've dropped the rear of the tranny it's easy for the motor to get jammed up on the motor mounts. Try to lift it up with the rear of the tranny up some.

Re: engine removal help

she was lifting pretty good.
and yes,i am lifting both the engine and tranny at one time.
you can see in the second pic how far it has went but not enough to clear the mounts.
exhaust manifolds need to come off now or will it come out like it is?
as you can see,i have plenty of room to work.car was wrecked in the front and we cut it all away.

we have the tranny jacked and are working it with the engine as we lift.

Re: engine removal help

I still say pry bar.

drop the k member?

something is in a bind, its that simple. Its not black magic.

try moving the tailshaft around. where does the movement center around? Try the same for the front.

and when all else fails, stick a long pipe against the manifold and the frame rails or inbetween the motor mounts and pry it loose.

Re: engine removal help

Ain't got it out yet? That thing's wide open. Second above, pry bar at the mounts. Anything else holding it would be obvious.

Re: engine removal help

From the second pic, it looks like the drivers side exhaust pipe is still connected.

Re: engine removal help

2 things i can think of.

1. I can't see what's going on in that second pic either, you may have the exhaust pipe dropped and we are looking at the flapper valve for the A.I.R .

2. Let the tranny down, remove the tranny crossmember. If you have that tail end jacked up and them are jacking up om the picker then the tranny will hit the tunnel and won't go anywhere.

If you let the tranny down the motor moves up and it will come out at a angle.
