trans temp gauge

I want to install a trans temp gauge.Where is the best place to put the sensor in the pan.Who else has done this that might could offer up some info.I did a search but after about 8 pages of searching under trans temp sensor/gauge everything was about temp gauges and coolant temp sensors. Thanks

Re: trans temp gauge

i would put it in the line going to the cooler, that would be your highest temp, and closer to what the fluid in the tranny is

i would call Jegs and ask for tech support they are REAL helpful

Re: trans temp gauge

You can get a "sensor manifold" to put the sensor in one of the cooler lines. I just have mine in the pan. It doesn't really matter all that much where you put it, the gauge is just going to let you know when the temperature isn't behaving properly.

thats the part im talking about, just easier in the line, you dont have to drill and tap the pan

Re: trans temp gauge

Theres not really enough meat in the pan to tap it, you need to use a weld nut to do it properly. If you put it in the pan, it also doubles as a convenient drain plug.

Re: trans temp gauge

I think I`m just gonna use the sensor manifold. That sounds much easier.Plus I just had my trans built and it may mess up my warrenty if I go turning bolts on it.I had an extra pan and we welded a fitting on to it.We mad sure it would avoid the valve body and all the internals, but it was in the way of the shifter when the shop went to put it on.Thats all they were waiting on to be finished so I said screw it,deal with it latter.I wanna drive my car

Re: trans temp gauge

If you lose your warranty just from pulling the pan, you need to find another transmission rebuilder.

Re: trans temp gauge

Not sure that I would.Better safe than sorry I`d check with them first. But I think I like the sensor manifold idea better.Sounds much easier and cleaner not having to drain the fluid and try to reuse it or buy more

Re: trans temp gauge

Seems like I've read that you can use the diagnostic pressure port that's located in the driver's side of the case above the shift linkage. I could be wrong though. It's a 1/8" NPT port with a pipe plug in it. Might want to look into that as well.

Re: trans temp gauge

look at your trans from the driverside, about where your shift selector is go about half way up there will be a small bolt about the diamater of your sender, pull it out. you will see that it looks just like your sender. put your sender there, that is where they belong. you will get the best reading from there on what your Transmission is actually doing not just the fluid temp.
