Yeah, sont do it. At my shop we dont even bother playing with the governor springs. It is a pita. Something always goes wrong, i reccomend shifting yourself.

I wish it was that easy

I have a Stageright transbrake installed, the way it works is when you put it in 1 the brake is turned on and I can build boost, when you click it in 2 it goes(and sometimes lifts the left front wheel an inch )but it shifts at like 4500 and I manually shift to third at 5200.

I swapped the govener with my freind Ed's which was suppesed to shift at 5200 but it shifts at 5000 so I'm looking for the extra 200 rpms.It might not sound like much but it will help alot in keeping the motor in it's overall powerband.

Thanks,
Steve

Is there a TV cable on those you can adjust?

Yes it does and it is adjusted and working properly.I know for sure it should shift 1-2 at 5200-5300 from talking to other TTA owners.I was thinking maybe the shift kit in the trans may have altered line pressure down so as to reduce my shift points. What do you think?

Thanks,
Steve

Well, then your best bet is to call fairbanks and get an adjustable governor kit. They come with i think four different springs that you can play with. If you need the part number, i am going to work tomorrow and can give you a price at your cost.

B&M sells a governor speed shift kit. The price is around 30 dollars. The kit contains springs and weights that can alter both the 1-2 and 2-3 shift rpm. You will have to experiment with the combinations until you get it correct. I am using this kit in my GTA and it took three tries before I had it perfect.

You said you changed the governor, which one did you change it to? There are three governors available, if you want to get the extra 2-300 rpm out of it, you can grind off a little of the small weight. Compare the two governors you have been using, look at the small weights and see the difference in size. Continue to modify the small weight in the same direction (lighter), remove a little at a time & this will do the trick. Most people who want the exact rpm WOT shifts have to do this, it will take some work.

Thanks Pro Built, the govener I was using was from a freind who had modified it by taking some material off the lighter weight, only I have to duplicate it on mine scince I have to give his back and then take a little more off mine and try it.

Another question, the trans seems to,at certain times, stay in second gear after I stop and try to leave from a light or whatever. Why would it stay in second and not drop back to first.

Someone suggested the Intermediate Servo may have a broken spring, which could be causing all my problems but I don't know how true that is.

Thanks again,
Steve

You shouldn't have to drop the pan to remove the governor. I am assuming the 200 is like the 700 and TH350 that the governor is located towards the back under the Dust Cover looking thing. At most you should only have to drop the tranny down by undoing the crossmember.

I wish it was that easy,if you ever get the chance to look at a 200R4 trans pan, there is a big section like all trans have and a little section towards the rear(the governer is in there )

The 2004R is more sensitive to TV cable adjustment at an idle, too much & you will start in 2nd gear. If you do this and it works, but later throttle openings start to soften the shifts then you will need to redo the geometry at the carb/injection linkage. If you have more questions give me a call at 800 7763288 Mon-Sat 10-6 PST.
