New pilot bearing with new clutch

The clutch on the Camaro (91 RS w/ 305 TBI, 5 Speed) is on it's last legs (slipping under load, chattering while engaging 1st, 2nd and to lesser extent 3rd) so I'm going to be replacing it with a McLeod unit soon. Unlike most of the other clutch kits I researched before choosing this one a new pilot bearing is not included. While i think I know the answer to this question I have to ask anyway. Do I need to replace the existing pilot bearing with a new one when I replace the clutch?

While you have it apart would be a great time to replace the pilot bushing and the throwout bearing.

Thanks for the feedback. Have the McLeod on order and I went ahead an got a new pilot bearing/ bushing roller type to go with it. Just need to rent a tool to remove the old one and I think i will be good to go.

Or pack it with grease, insert something (I use on old alignment tool), and give it a couple of whacks. The grease pushes the bushing out.

What about a wooden dowel? Do you know the diameter of the hole?

Sorry, I don't offhand. Dowel? Sounds like it should work. You might take the new bushing to the hardware store with you to find the correct size.
