How about you just start 1 thread and keep with that one instead of putting 4 threads on here in different places about the same thing.
You need to match your stall to your cam. Get the cam card and see where its suppose to making power. If you still cant figure it out call the cam manufacturer.

ok it will be 350 made into a 383 stoker with 475 at the crank. It will not really be ran on the track but will be raced. I want to say i have an 11 sec car.

Re: How big should i stall?
i mean you can get away with 3400 on a 305 for alittle while, and actually a 3400 stall designed for a 383 will stall lower on a weaker 305 so you probly could run that converter just fine for alittle while before the motor gets in

Re: How big should i stall?
converters are 200-1000 depending and installation at a reputable tranny shop shouldnt be that much. they should beable to bang it out in a hour or two but i'd bet they would charge 100-200 bucks labor, etc, but its hard to say. I never got it done seperately. It cost me 1000 in cash to rebuid my tranny with good stuff and install the converter at the same time

So i should be able to do it for 500-800 bucks! Now if i do it a few months be for my engine will it really be hard on my 305? When i come off the line from a stop sign or somewhere will it really move?

Re: How big should i stall?
it may be harder on the trans and make it heat up more while its unlocked and the rpms are up. SHould be ok tho.
yes it will be completely different car if you havent driven a car witha converter in it before. From a rolling start its definately fun. becareful from a stop, car may want to loose traction alot quicker than your used to

Re: How big should i stall?
Add an aftermarket trans cooler with the higher stall converter.
