what gears should i run?

i want to know what gear i should go with. i have a stock rearend, i think i have a 2:73 in my car right now...at 70 mph im running between 3000 and 3500 rpm....so the mark has to be 3250....so what gear should i run. i want the most performance that i can get but i want to be able to take my car out of town every now and then. the farthest im going is a little less than 50 miles..and also could you give me some advice on what posi carrier to go with...i forgot to mention i have 4L60 transmission parts in my tranny plus i got a stage 2 shift kit with the stock convertor... does that explain why my rpm is so high? if i remeber correctly when i bought the car the guy told me the engine was bore .30 over....i dont know much about engines so here are the specs....
030 pistons-sealed power hypereutectic forged flat top
030 rings-hasting moly
010 mains-ACL
194 valves
new springs H/P
M55 high volume oil pump
817 lifters
9.5 compression ratio
intake-lift 420 duration 204
exhaust-lift 443 duration 214

Your car doesn't have a overdrive? 3000+rpm now that your getting will get worse if you try to change the gears out.

Ya that is alot higher than my old 2:73 and my 3:73 posi now at 60 is at 2000 or a little more.

Re: what gears should i run?

pretty sure it's not shifting into O/D, your probably stuck on D. Either that or you don't have 2.73 gears.

Re: what gears should i run?

samiam91RS at what what rpm are you running at 70 mph with ur 3.45?
tony89GTA my tranny does shift into o/d so maybe it is because i have 4L60 parts in my tranny....im the 3rd owner and the guy told me the guy before never changed the gears either....so i dont know whats up. oh yeah i have a custom built chip too idk if that would make it run so high....what carrier do you guys perfer, im looking for a mid price range and durable carrier...thank for the input guys...

Re: what gears should i run?

to be honest with you im not exactly sure due to the fact that my tach is way off, haha. but i know about how far it is off, just not precise. so id say about 2500?? then again im not sure if it wraps up more as the RPMs get higher. once i get an auto meter ill know for sure and tell ya. should be soon here.
