I have a 82 T/A its currently a AUTO (turbo 200 EWW)
So Im buying a T5 setup out of a 84 camaro.. Now do I need the crossmember? what else do I need besides the tranny and pedal setup...
do you think its going to be hard? Do I HAVE to pull the motor.

Re: T5 Swap.

i did a t5 conversion in my 86 iroc.. same car so you should be fine. i would go with hydraulic clutch setup because that year has the z bar i believe. the crossmember is the same it bolted right in for me. the driveshaft is the same also but i had a 700r4 so i might be wrong. anyways its not too hard took me only a day to do it. and you dont have to pull the engine. any other questions i would be glad to answer.

Re: T5 Swap.

lol. yeah its not that bad. you need some patience. im no expert but ive done the swap. just make sure you have the crossmember for that transmssion just to be sure and you should take the driveshaft if its not anymore just to be safe. and that 84 transmission is a nwc transmission so dont put too much power behind it. i just blew mine out like 2 weeks ago.. but just take the bellhousing bolts out and pull the trans out. you might have to take the flexplate bolts out. or flywheel whatever you wanna call it. then after you get everything out inspect everything. make sure nothing is leaking because this is when i replaced my rear main seal. now you need to get a flywheel, pressure plate, clutch, throwout bearing, pilot bearing or bushing and whatever kinda clutch setup your going with. if im missing something just let me know...
----------
you will also need reverse light pigtail (the wire that goes to the transmission) and the speed sensor should be the same. but the speedo will probably be off because of different rear gears. if you have stock 2.73's then your going to have some long gears. i suggest going to the stock 3.42's or 3.73's

Re: T5 Swap.

yeah it really is fun to drive. i did the swap 2 years ago when i was 16 lol. then converted it to tpi fuel injection did heads and cam and that car flies now.. deff fun cars to get into. if you need any help on any questions just let me know. oh and dont forget the shifter and shifter boot (the lower one) and dont cut out the floor too much (dont want a big hole) lol but its easy if you have ppl to help you. and the pedal assembly is a must. the gas pedal is separate. but put the clutch pedal and stuff in and the holes that go into firewall for master cylinder if you use hydraulic clutch setup will line right up just drill hole right out. have funn

Re: T5 Swap.

well. i personally didnt take the center console out but i really suggest you do. i didnt do a perfect clean cut so thats the reason im suggesting this. as far as wiring goes theres not too much wiring involved. the purple and yellow wires that go into the auto shifter are your starter wires. i just crimped them together so the car will start. its not a smart idea because you can start the car without your foot on the clutch. but i didnt really care about safety lol. those are the main two wires you have to put together for the car to run. now i dont think there a different color but it is a 82 not a 86. its the two biggest wires thats all you have to know. the other two wires you need are the backup (reverse lights) wires. they are i believe blue and green. im not certain but i can check. all you have to do is splice them and they go into the reverse light sensor on side of transmission. the orange one goes to the ecm so leave that one alone and the black one is a ground. and thats pretty much all the wiring.
----------
thats sweet though. just make sure you dont put too much power behind that t5. its not strong. ive learned by now that you just shouldnt get a nwc t5 just get the wc t5. but in your case since you still have the 305 there should be no worries..

Re: T5 Swap.

yeah. im just glad i could help out. i saw that it said t5 swap and was like i did that so let me help him out. lol but make sure its atleast a v8 t5 not a v6 t5. you should be fine though to do the swap. there will be a few bugs hear and there to work out but its worth it. and the hydraulic clutch setup you should get new. its gunna be pretty old from that camaro and chances are you dont want it leaking. the master is $45 and slave is like $45. or you can get the complete setup for $175 forgets who makes it. sorry. but thats what i did. just make sure when you srill the hole for the master cylinder to come through the firewall just be sure it will line up with the pedals and your not off like an inch to one side make sure its straight and lined up right.

Re: T5 Swap.

You'll want to grab the driveshaft from the T5 donor car while you're at it. All 700r4/T5 cars have the same length driveshaft, but your early TH200 equipped car uses a longer driveshaft, not to mention a different crossmember. As far as wiring goes, you'll need to splice the thick yellow and purple wires together that are in the plug that goes to your auto shifter. Those are your safety neutral wires, and if they're not spliced together, the car won't crank over. You can also hook them up to the safety neutral switch on the clutch pedal, but most people just bypass the switch by splicing them together. If you want your reverse lights to work, there's two other wires in your auto shifter plug for the reverse lights. Those need to be hooked up to the switch that's screwed into the middle of the T5 case on the driver's side.
