Hi guys,I am the guy who wrote the "Beefing the 7.625" 10 bolt" article in the tech section last winter. If you read my article then you know that I am using a Zexel Torsen H.D. unit from SLP.I paid $299 for it.
I was just looking at the "internet specials"
on the SLP site. All I can say is get your credit card out! They have the H.D. Zexel torsen unit, your choice of a 3.42,3.73,or 4.11 gear set, a AAM aluminum differential cover, and a electronic recalibrater for your sppeedometer for (you will not believe this) $299!!!!!
Hell at that price I may order it just to have another one!
Just wanted to let all my third gen. brothers know,so they can save a significant amount of money!!!

Does this set whine like other gear sets I am thinking about the motive GM 3:73 because I have heard for sure it does not whine.

Man, I called them and it's not the deal you think it is. Damn, I'm pissed!!!! 299.95 only includes the zexel torsen. The gears and other items are "A and B options". Damn it!!!

I was able to get the zexel-torsen unit from them 3 weeks ago for $99. I thought it was normal price but maybe it was only a limited time deal.

The $99 Torsen is the regular model, which is the one installed in the '99 and newer 4th-gens IIRC. The $299 Torsen is the HD model, with 2 sets of gears inside instead of one set. I think the extra set of gears means it can take more torque and abuse, and maybe handles a little better in the twisties, but I'm not positive on that. I do know that it works great in my IROC.

The plot thickens... I just went to SLP's site and did a search for the part number that I used when I ordered my zexel-torsen unit. I used part number 64501T. Here's the link to the results:
http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...TNUMBER=64501T

The only difference I can see is that the one I got says that it is an OEM diff, where the other one says its a HD unit. In any case, SLP's ad for the $299 package seems to be misleading. IMO it says $299 is a package that includes the zexel-torsen, gears, cover, and calibrator because in the ad it says everything is available individually.

Aha! Thanks Greg for the clarification. Still, SLP's ad makes it seem like $299 includes everything, and not just the diff. Oh well, I already got mine.
