Holley carb says bad for overdrive tranny...WTF?
Says here that the 0-80508S carb is a universal type to be used on a square-bore only. Use of adaptors on a spread-bore manifold may have an adverse effect on cylinder-to-cylinder distribution.
Then: Warning: This carb is NOT designed for use with ANY automatic overdrive transmission. If used on an automatic overdrive vehicle, severe transmission damage WILL result.
Does this mean I am screwed? I have a 700R4! This IS a vacuum secondary carb... why would it have problems with an overdrive tranny? Are they just covering their butts or something?

Could it mean that there's no provision for the TV cable? Or that there's no provision for the TCC lockup switch? Sounds odd. Maybe they're just covering their butts.. I think Edelbrock has a web page, maybe you could email them or call their tech line and ask. If you do, let us know what they say!

The only thing I have found is that there is a GM 700R4 bracket p/n 20-95 (no doubt $2) that I may need. I wish I had known when I ordered the carb from Jegs! Anything else you guys can think of?

The warning is because some people don't know how to install the TV cable correctly, which will burn up the tranny. My holley and overdrive tranny get along just fine. Just get the TV cable adjusted correctly and install a lock-up kit for the TCC. I've had the holley carb for about 6 years, and the overdrive tranny for about 1 year(had a th350). Holley is just getting tired of being sued because dumb @ss people don't install the TV cable correct and they blame the carb for burning up the tranny.

IT is becasue the place where you hook up the TV cable nipple to the carb actuating arm is at the wrong radius from the center of rotation. It is too far away, therefore, when you hammer the pedal, the TV cable pulls out, like to set it. Now, when you are at the lower throttle settings, the TV cable isn't pulled out far enough for proper line pressure and your trans will burn!!! Proper radius is about 1.1" or so, and is VERY important. You will have to bend/weld/modify the arm to get the trans to work properly.

No problems here. It shifts hard at low speed with minimal throttle.

I heard back from the Holley Tech guy and he said I need that bracket they sell so I have the TV cable at the proper geometry. That is what I figured too, I just hope Autozone has one in stock! Thanks guys for the help.
