Has anyone removed their torque arm?

I mean removed it for good. What did you have to do to make up for it? Any pics?

The Torque Arm is a very vital piece of equipment. It prevents the differential from rolling foward or bacwards under the various torque loads placed on the drivetrain. Most RWD vehicles use a rigid mount to a leaf spring (trucks) or upper and lower control arms (caprice, Impalla, etc...) The F-body I think lacks the structural support for upper control arms, so they just mounsted a long bar to the tranny tailshaft.

If you wanted to delete it, you would have to find someway to attach some sort of brace from the diff, to the body, and yet be flexible to allow suspension travel, but be rigid to prevent diff roll (there is a term for that, I just don't remember). Why are you trying to delete it?

if can be removed and left off. you'd have to add ladder bars and a cross brace for the forward mounting point. why would you want to remove it?

I'm keeping mine. My friend is swapping a 2.8 for a 5.0 and can't find a V-8 Auto trans so he's getting a T350 instead. There's no place to mount the torque arm so he asked how to delete it.
I understand it's vital but I have seen pics of cars without one, I just can't remember what they did. I'm getting old.
We'll probally get the B&M kit for 700R4 to T350 from Summit.

Oh yeah, I forgot about your friends dilemma. I still think he should get a V8 700. Hell, if he can't afford one, have him buy one thats burnt up, I throw some clutches in it for him. I won't charge to much. He will probably spend less money, have less headache, and retain overdrive. Has he called cash and carry?

Your wrong
The 2.8 and 3.1 were 60° engines. The 5.0 and 5.7 are 90° engines. Totally differant bellhousings.
I believe the 4.3 is a 90° engine so it should be a match.

I found that part number yesterday and it's on order. Have you seen it? Does it come with a new crossmember?

I do remember seeing someone delete their torque arm on this board. Said they did it for the weight...

have one sitting on the floor here all it is is a bracket that bolts to the trans and the torqe arm mount bolts to it.
