Lost Firm Shifts Maybe TQ Converter??

had my trans (700r4) rebuilt about 8k ago, (little over a year) and it was built to be a strip trans, had no trouble laying rubber going into 2nd

well today on the interstate it did something crazy, i went to pass someone and layed it out, going aprox 65mph it went into 2nd and then right to 3rd back to 2nd and back to 3rd with in seconds ............ Wierd Huh??

well on my way home, 6-8 hours later, i noticed it wont even bark the tires going into 2nd.... and its not near as firm shifting

car still has plenty of power so its not a power issue it something in the trans, checked the TV cable and it has tention on it like it should and moves freely like it should...........im lost.....

trash in the valve body???
something with the servo???

Please..... I lost the favorite part of the car when i play around with it

Re: Lost My Super Firm Shifts

i think its my tq converter......... its wasnt shifting........i think the converter was cycleing......i say that because it did it to day and then acting like the converter was slipping...........the trans fluid is ok, not burnt or discolored. it only does this when its hot, and it has somewhat firm shifts when its stone cold.....as long as my coolent temp stays low (below 170 got a 160 stat)(and i say coolent temp low so it cools the trans fluid in the factory trans cooler better) anyway i really think its my converter going out

need some help please

Re: Lost Firm Shifts Maybe TQ Converter??

i am having a similar problem. and i also just had my 700r4 rebuilt. mine tends to slips out of overdrive when it warms up. and it the firm shift into 2nd is gone. i have a corvette servo and shift kit in it.

i also noticed that the tans oil seemed alittle foamy when i am having the problem. i dont know if that is the cause or is normal.

Re: Lost Firm Shifts Maybe TQ Converter??

not normal at all, it could be hot before and still lay rubber going into 2nd, still be firm and solid as a rock into 3rd and 4th

it gets worse the hotter the trans gets

this problem just showed its butt up a few days ago on my way to my g/f's (she lives 32 miles away about 13 miles of 2 lane 55mph road and the rest interstate)

im sure it converter slip, and that i got a POS converter, i got a 2100 stall, if its the converter then i want to go with a better beand converter, and a 2300 stall

suscribe to this and hopefully someone can give us a direction to go in, help me out and "bump" the post if i havent in a days time

good luck with yours, i will post up if i figure out the problem and solve it, hope you do the same for me

not sure about the foam in the fluid, im a motor man, not a trans guy

Re: Lost Firm Shifts Maybe TQ Converter??

It is not the torque coverter. If the shifts are getting softer on the 1-2 WOT shift, then the 2-4 band is going away. What is the condition of the fluid? Dana

Re: Lost Firm Shifts Maybe TQ Converter??

fluid is perfect, looks brad new, (only got 8k on the whole trans) no smell metal or anything in it......was told that i could of pulled my TV cable out of adjustment, the filter is clogged, or something about my servo.....so thats a few diffrent things.....the who trans was built and built strong only 8k ago, i doubt its the band, he ran some of the best you can get. this guy builds the 700s all the time and he has guys throwing BIG motors and all at the drag srtip with what he did to mine...and i talked to people that have his 700's its not hear say..........maybe this can help you help me more

Re: Lost Firm Shifts Maybe TQ Converter??

heck all know is it acts up when it gets hot as described up above, like if the car warms up above 200........and i guess that is due to the coolant getting hotter and not cooling the trans cooler as well
