88 Camaro shifting clunk

With a 305 I dont have tons of power but hey for a Canadian it does alright. The problem I have is with the transmission ( I think )
If I put my foot down off the line. I get a huge clunk it seems to come from under the passanger seat.

Off the line and at about 30km an hour is the only time it does this.

Thank for the help

Crawl under the car and look at the u-joints and the tranny/motor mounts. Most driveline clunks are u-joint related. if there is slop in one of the joints you will here a clunk when you shift from reverse to drive in an auto with the brakes on.

Heheheh, this is so common that it's almost funny. I was able to diagnose this as my brother-in-laws problem a couple year ago by him just describing it to me in the same way. Replace your transmission mount with either a new OEM one that will also break, the 4th-gen 1LE one (part # 22174970), or the Energy Suspension one (part # 3-1108). The 1LE part ('98+ F-bods) is made of a harder-durometer rubber and has some sort of interlocking feature too.

Thanks a lot for your help guys. I figured that it was the transmission mount.

heheh i have the stage three shift kit and i was going through a stock mount a week(bought one from autozone for 5.99 with lifetime warranty.) so basically id get the new one thursday, have fun all weekend and get a new one next thursday i never paid for it because of the warranty and the guys there expected me every thursday. well its been about three months and i havent broken the mount lately. its one of the replacements from autozone and i guess i just got a strong one. the car still has the same amount of kick to it so i guess i just got lucky wiht the current mount

i dunno

SlowCamaro, my 2.8 broke two stock trans mounts in 3 years- then I found out about the ES mount.. it's been on there for, wow, 4 years and still going. Great investment for almost the same price!
