help me reinforce my rear

Hi all! i would like some cheap insurance for my rear end. I know i can weld the axle tubes, but what else can i do short of an axle swap to beef up a 10 bolt? i'm looking for cheap or free here. thanks.

other than that, upgrade to 28 spline axles. the weak link is still the ring and pinion, its only a matter of time before something happens.

Re: help me reinforce my rear

A T/A PErformance aluminum cover can help. They are not cheap or free, but they do strengthen the housing and bearing caps. 28 spline axles and an Eaton piosi will also help, but also not cheap or free.

Re: help me reinforce my rear

Yea, nothing is cheap or free, but the aluminum girdle (the cover) is the main point.
A better posi, aftermarket 28 spline axles... those help a lot.

Re: help me reinforce my rear

The only things that I did to my diff was weld the axle tubes and used a TA girdle.

Best 60ft was 1.52
Best et was 11.00 @ 125mph.
That was a stock diff otherwise(gm 10bolt, 7.625) with a 700r4

BTW, I blew the diff on the last pass on the last race of the year.
165hp shot of nitrous off the line was just too much.
I dyno'd my car and it was 377hp to the wheels(that was na)

Re: help me reinforce my rear

Those aren't very strong. Just wondering, why do you have 3 studs and 1 bolt in the bearing caps?

Not sure!

I put the TA cover on about 3yrs ago and put in sythetic fluid and haven't look at it since. I was guessing at the time that it wouldn't last long.

Re: help me reinforce my rear

I tried sliding 28 spline axles in a 26 spline rear, after changing the spider gears. No posi involved at that time. Didn't want to undo the caps. Anyway, doesn't work. You hafta change the carrier. If your car has drum brakes, you can just get a later axle. Try a 90-92 V6 automatic car for the 28 spline axles with a 3.42:1, 7.625" setup, then spend $350 for a conversion locker. Or not. Worked well for me.

Not to hyjack the thread but, What did the car run on motor at the 377 RWHP. What did it run with the nitrous?

Thanks!
