i have a 700-R4 that is 9 years old and has seen moderate street use the whole 9 years(with the exception of racing 30 miles at WOT for about 5-10 min., it was when my grandad died ) will it be able to handle a 500hp 383? will i have to rebuild it or put in a different servo or what? please help

Humm, well all I can tell you is, I just got done rebuilding my tranny... and I never knew what I was missing until I drove it around for the first time today...

do the rebuild yourself, and have fun burning your tires away...

Owner of a 1989 IROC-Z Camaro, a.k.a. "The Babe Magnet". Painted a cheap metallic blue that chips off all too easily and covers over the IROC-Z decals on the doors, also has non-leaking T-tops, ps, pw, power rear hatch, working A/C. Mods: SLP intake runners, gutted MAF sensor, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, modified air spoil, 3.27 posi rear end.
Broken stuff: rear spoiler brake light, driver side lock, power antenna, tilt steering, rear end bushings, cracked passanger side ground effect, washer fluid tab, leaking exhaust and a rotted through muffler that sparks when the car bottoms out while driving like any 17 year old does.

Tranny rebuilding is not hard as long as u have a manual or something to guide u along the way! The type of rebuild im refering too is just changing your cluth packs, band & maybe installing a shift kit while u have the thing all opened up.
#1 U HAVE TO HAVE A 700R4 MANUAL
#2 U HAVE TO HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOUR OWN SELF!
#3 IF U DO THE WORK THAT I MENTIONED UP TOP IT SHOULD COST U NO MORE THAN $150-200 COMPLETE WITH THE SHIFT KIT INCLUDED!
just my $ .02 ya know?

I have a T-5 going infront of a similar motor.(see sig ) My t-5 is on a difinitive suicide mission. I have seen some of the 11 and 12 second stang boys at the track still running thier T-5's though.

Is now 383 stroker w/ the same T-5
World products Sportsman II heads. Lunati pistons and custom ground camshaft. Will dyno after the break in but is estimated at 450 hp and 520 ftlbs. The T-5 is on a suicide mission.

In order to rebuild your tranny you will need a manual, parts cleaner, compressed air, and a birdcage/return spring compressor. It will take ~20 hours start to finish to do a really through rebuild- disassembly, parts cleaning, inspection, and reassembly. The key is to not fake yourself out with the tranny's perceived complexity. Remember it is only a transmission. The best part is when you are done. You get to say, I built that, that's why it works so well. You also save ~1000$ as opposed to a comparable high performance rebuilt tranny. Plus doing it yourself is the only way to make sure it gets done right.

hey!what about all the special tools you need to change all the seals and bushings?
id say that is the worst part about the whole damn thing is changing seals.on my first 700 rebuild,it only lasted like 400 miles cuz i was to lazy to change the 1-2 piston seal.i wont do that again lol
yes you do need a good information source(manual)and you do need to have a pretty good brain for mechanical stuff.wherever you decide to rebuild, keep everything clean and orginized, and in a place where nobody will screw with it(fo rme it was a room in my basment)

86 camaro:was a v6 car with stick,converting to v-8..NEED A V-8 T-5!!!!!!!!!!email me if you have one!!!

trw forged pistons with summit stage 2 polished rods with arp bolts.
194 intake valves,pocket ported,gasket matched,and polished ports,old vette intake with new zinc 650 holley

ase certified for a few years, learned alot though

I had a hell of a time using those full o-ring seals on the input shaft and keeping them in place while putting the pump on. The split seals are a dream... I don't care what people say.. I saw more full seals pinched or cut that leak like a seive on startup. Split seals stay put.
