Diff. between 700-R4 and 200-4R

What are the performance, durability differences between these two?

This is what I've heard/read: Both trannies can -now- be made equally durable. They had problems in their early days from the factory, which gave them a bad reputation.

Performance-wise, the 200-4R might be better, because the ratio drop is less between 1st and 2nd gear. The 700r4 has a large drop between the two- first gear is 3.06, second is 1.63. I'm not near my books so I don't remember what the 200-4R gears are, but I believe first gear is a 2.xx ratio.

Gear ratios are as follows: 700R4 (3.06)-(1.63)-(1.00)-(.70). The 2004R (2.74)-(1.57)-(1.00)-(.67).

I thought the 200R4 was a 3 speed. How can it have 4 gear ratios ??

No, they are both 4 speeds, hence the ***R4 name.

So all i would have to do is find a V8 bellhousing? what about the input shaft?

The bellhousing is an integral part of the case.

It's not a 200R4. It's called a 200-4R like the topic title said. Don't get the 2 mixed up. There's no such thing as a 200R4.
