GM Upshift Kit

I recently bought the GM upshift kit for my 700R4. The thing is, it doesn't come with any instructions. I really wasn't going to do it myself, but I was wondering if mechanics know how to put this thing on? After all, how often would they install such a part? Thanks for any replies.

Actually I was wondering the same. That backtrack link and every link to it explains NOTHING!

It says remove the tv cable, then no dont....

I ordered mine and it didn't arrive yet, I probably figure it out but some pre-info would help me too...

Hi, I saw this post and I must tell everyone that I'm completely happy with the kit. Like all of you I had no clue how to install the kit but I was fortunate to do it myself after obtaining the instructions from B&M. First of all, If I would do it again I would suggest also installing a Transgo shift kit because you have to remove the valve body. Second, the kit doesn't replace the TV cable nor is it altered. The kit includes a new boost valve for the trans pump. The new sleeve, red spring, and piston replace the stock 3-4 shift valve located at the front part of the valve body (behind the Torque convertor). I must warn all of you that most difficult part was installing the boost valve. Make sure its seated in its bore with a new snap ring. I hope that helps all of you.

Thanks for the link V6-3.1

Folks here it is! Replace your 3-4 line shift sleeve and piston with your new GM kit 3-4 valve and piston. Looking zig zag from left, replace the second valve with the fourth valve here's the pic

http://www.transonline.com/electroPu...m?pageID=1602.

Don't forget you MUST install your new boost valve that comes with the kit!

Yep, that's basically it other than installing a new tranny filter and pan gasket.

Good luck,

Is this for the GM kit, or the B&M kit? I got the GM kit. I'm asking because you got the instructions from B&M. If it is the GM kit... I really appreciate the help... thanks.

Yes it is for GM part # 8673948
B&M also sells a kit that not too many people know about. It's part B&M # 70249.
This not so well known kit B&M sells is exactly like the GM kit. The well known
"TV sleeve" B&M's bigger seller (probably most here have seen it) that is sold in Jegs and Summit is a total P.O.S!

Trust me, I have all three in my rides and I installed them myself. The last one I mentioned, the cheap TV sleeve, is in my Astroturd. It doesn't allow a full throttle 3-4 upshift and when you hit the gas to the floor while crusing at 85 hehehe a violent downshift occures. Therefore, get GM kit or ONLY B&M # 70249.

One more thing...

It said on the web page about the PR & TCC valve line up that some "lands" must be ground off. Is this really necessary to make the kit work, or is that part for something else? Thanks again

It's a good idea to grind them. It allows more oil to the planetaries and balances pressures which could result in pump ring breakage (common on older pumps with cast rings)

But grinding them off is NOT a necessity, right?

No, but it's simple and pretty much free insurance. It's more of a higher rpm thing.
