Re: Auto t5 to standard t56

For starters, you don't have an "auto t5". You either have an auto or a T5. Secondly, read the stickies/do a search. The info you're looking for has been posted many times and it is tough to get anyone to re-repost info.

- not trying to be harsh - Good luck with the swap.

Re: Auto t5 to standard t56

its fine to ask questions. But you really do need to search. That is a LOADED request you have there. I could go though the whole swap with you in this thread, but it would be a waste of time. The info and all the details of the install including pics are in the stickies at the top of threads. If you read those as still are confused. Post back and I will help

Re: Auto t5 to standard t56

I'm assuming you have an automatic 86 trans am (guess from your name). The automatic you have is a 700R4, assuming it hasn't been replaced/swapped. The swap to the T56 is easy (or I think it is/would be). As stated above, there are "Technical Articles" on this site (main page, left side menu).

What makes swaps easy/hard is all about what tools you have. I don't think anyone will argue that. If you have a shop with a lift and all the tools in the world, every job is easier. If you're trying to do this in your driveway with a set of wal-mart ratchets, it's going to be a hell of a lot more difficult. If you have access to knowledgeable (and tool equipped/lending) friends, you're probably in good shape.

Here is a T56 swap article. Give it a read, let us know of any questions.

Re: Auto t5 to standard t56

Some times we need to be harsh, and yes it is good to ask "informed" questions once you have done your homework. Read the sticky dennisbernal91z told you about. Lots of good info there, much better than the skulte site. It's too generic and just doesn't go into enough detail.

Those of us that have actually done the swap are just tired of answering questions for people that won't listen and don't take the time to learn what's involved. Believe me you don't want to be under the car and run into a problem and then have to post and ask a question and hope someone replies.

Like Dennis said if you read through the thread and if you have question I'll also be happy to help you once you have done your homework.

As has been stated by the others, do your homework, then post any possible questions. This board is all about asking/ansering questions, but you posted a very generic question that has been answered many times and even has a "sticky" how-to thread. - The search key is your friend on here, once you've done your homework, feel free to ask any questions. Myself and others will do what we can to answer them for you.
