speedometer cable
wel when i first got my car speedometer wasnt working noticed the headers burnt the cable since it isnt electric but mechanical.. i went to my job and got the cable but since it is a two piece and i need the second piece going to the tranny and the one i bought was from the speedometer to half way i returned it.. and havnt been able to find the other piece.. any one know where i could get it? also is there any way to make it electrical?

If you are talking about the speedometer cable for the 86 z28 the Dorman/motormite part number is 03159 you can get it at advance auto parts for about $15 it is a one piece from gauge to tranny

the original ones always came that way, but the aftermarket OEM replacement is considered a more universal one so it is just a one piece that works better than the two piece

If your car has a two-piece speedometer cable, I "believe" a transducer is involved: one cable goes from the transmission to the transducer and the other goes from the transducer to the speedometer. If a transducer isn't involved, the cable should be one piece.

itwas just a two piece hooked together and i replaced it with what was called for which was a one piece

So essentially, there was a two-piece used with a transducer (in the early years), then later other options: a two-piece that apparently screwed together or joined in some manner and a single piece. Very interesting. More interesting would be why GM installed the two-piece when no transducer was involved.
