I've got issues w/ one too - quotes have been in the range of $1500 to $2000...

what issues are you having? $1,500? is that with like performence parts and a shift kit? you can get a tci 700r4 from summit for $1,500. that seems like a lot for just a rebuild

I agree that is a lot - it was w/ a shift kit installed as well...
The problem I am having is that it will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear - works just fine beyond that...
On one hand I'd like to have it rebuilt so I can keep her as original as possible - but for the money I might just break down and buy another for her...

TPI is what she's got right now...
I just bought this one last week - I had the exact car about 10 years ago and found this one for a price I couldn't refuse! (right here on thirdgen) Needs a little TLC but she'll be car show quality in no time at all!

gta bandit I think you're forgetting the price of the torque converter in the t.c.i. comment. knowing the person who built it is a rewarding feeling. you should try it sometime-the tci is nice yes, but a local person will be there when you need them if they are good, and won't give you the "the warranty is expired" drill. tci is vague in the parts replacement for their units from what i've seen in summit, yes they do a lot but knowing for sure from someone you know and could trust would be better IMO.

hudson the 3-4 clutches could be replaced for a fraction of the cost of a complete overhaul. normally they are what causes that, or the rubber that moves the piston for that set of clutches/which would be even cheaper.
