Clanking noise from my rear-end
Anyway, on the car, I just noticed it today during lunch break. I was cruising around the parking lot, looking for a spot and noticed a "clanky" sound coming from the rear axle area. I've heard the rear end whine slightly before and went away so I assumed the worst. But now I don't know for sure. If I give it gas, I can hear a clank and it seems to happen whether I'm turning or not.
Would a rear-axle make this noise before going bad or would it be more like my u-joints finally taking a dump on me?
The rear is an aussie BW 2.77:1 POSI rear. Never had any troubles with it, changed the gear oil twice in it's 104K mile life and yes, I added the posi additive too.
I'm thinking more like U-Joints or could the rear axle also make this type of noise?
I just hope I make the last 7-mile trip home ok ... in the rain ...

U-joints could be the problem, have them checked, or if you can, do it yourself, if thats not the problem (which lm sure it is) sometimes the pinion can wiggle itself loose and rub against the carrier, which will make a pretty noticable grinding noise, and usually occurs when youre coming to a stop.
hope this helps a little bit.
good luck finding the problem

Hopefully, if it doesn't rain much, I'll be popping off the rear cover and looking at the gears and such in the rear. Anything to look out for. I am pretty new when it comes to rear axle so please forgive my ignorance. I will most definitely check the U-Joints as well. Any tricks to ensuring they are bad or just replace them for the hell of it?!
allen you dumbass this is so far over your head you'll never figure it out let alone fix it. i'd look at u joints first if it were mine.

Thanks, ********, I think I will!
I had a funny feeling the post you'd reply with would begin with "allan you dumbass" so here ya go! LOL!
I admit, I know **** about rear ends, my wife knows a lot about mine tho!
Those darn Borg-Warner rears are too good to break!
