hi im have a question for u posi guys , okay i might be gettin this posi rear from a guy on this site and it has 3.73 gears and a powertracks posi unit in it and he says that it makes a noise but rides fine , does that noise mean something is wrong or is it just how it was made and it will make that noise. also i have a 305 with a th350 and what kinda gas milage will i see if i get this i really dont car becuz the car will be sittin over the winter and i just want to know what kinda milage would i see becuz right now im getin like 16 to 20 miles a gallon, so please let me know thanx

I have heard some people say that Richmond gears make a whining noise, because they trade durability for a little noise. However, I have also heard if installed right they won't make noise. I just had Richmond gears installed and there is no whining at all. To answer your mpg question how severly it affects it will depend on the gears you have right now. If you have 2:73 I would say you would lose a couple mpg, because you don't have OD. When I had my gear swap I figured it would kill my milage but I haven't noticed a decrease but I have OD.

Do you mean a Powertrax locker? That will definately make a loud clicking noise whenever you turn corners. I don't think Powertrax makes a "posi" (a limited slip differential).

Lockers are normally only used for off-street racing and heavy duty stuff.

 

I had 2:73's. Wish I hadn't spent the money on the rear now though.

The powertrax locker is not very loud. The only time I hear it is going slow and turning at full lock. I had 3.73's and a th350 for a while. 3000rpm at 60mph isn't much fun. Interstate driving at 75 plus is just too many rpms for any resonable amount of time.

who thinks i sound go with the slp posi for 100 and get the 28 spine axels from a local junkyard becuz i dont know whats really wrong with the rear end , and if i go with the slp has anyone had any expierience with them becuz ive heard there really good for the price. becuz im thinking about doin that becuz it seems cheaper and looks easy to do. please respond

I've had several people tell me to get the SLP take off posi, I haven't heard anything bad about them.
