Many on this board would like to know how to properly install GM part # 8673948 transmission upshift valve used on B-body cars. It is not the same as the simple B&M downshift kit. The GM kit includes 5 parts plus the valve body gaskets. Does the valve install where there is anluminum blank or plug on the valve body? It is the same diameter as the new valve kit.
Any help would be appreciated by not only me but others here as well.

Thanks,
Eddie

Thank you Camaro Mike.
At least I have more of an Idea where it is supposed to be installed. So it completely replaces the TV valve and totally eliminates the TV cable? Therefore no 4th to 3rd kickdown by gas pedal and downshift from overdrive to drive is fully manual?

I know the B&M TV kitis a modified version that retains the TV cable but the GM kit seems to be better for the strip.

We need more info

Thanks,
Eddie

Hi CamaroMike,

Let me describe the kit I have in front of me for others who may want to know

GM Part # 8673948
here is what it has:

1 red spring

1 valve holder (aluminum with a bore and fluid circuts)

1 sliding shaft plunger about
1 1/2" long. It appears to fit inside valve holder with the red spring

two other pieces that appear to be
valves. One appears to be a small plunger and the other seems to be a larger plunger with a bore of the same outside diamater as the small plunger.

Anyway, the parts came in a sealed factory bag for a total of 5 parts. Package only came with one spring and it is red.

You've been a great help CamaroMike

THANK YOU,
Eddie

BTW, are there any others who has experience installing the GM upshift kit?

Wow, for $20 you get all that? Cool. There's no instructions? Did you check out B&M's website at http://www.bmracing.com ? The instructions for the TransPak are on there (thanks FastBroker!).. do any of those parts in the instructions look like what you got?

I'll have to get out my trans books and look for this "downshift valve". It really eliminates the TV cable? Why would the kit come with the TV plunger & spring & valve holder? (At least, I assume that's the TV parts.) The plunger has to be pushed by something (Tv cable).. right?

hi,

The GM kit didn't come with any instructions. I went to the dealership earlier today and had no luck. I've also checked out some tranny books but they were too vague. Maybe someone in here has worked on a B4C police packaged car. According to the dealership, most B-body cars were equipped with this kit.

If anyone has a B4C Camaro RS, could you look and see if you have a TV cable to your tranny.

Thank you,

Eddie

All that you just read is completely untrue.
You donot remove the TV cable. That valve just replaces the existing valve in the TV system. The other valve is the rev. boost valve.

You do not remove the TV cable under any circumstances, unless you have a full manual valve body and they tell you to remove it!.
The TV cable controls line pressure (up & down). Without it the transmission might last just a few miles with the clutches & band slipping not to mention stacked shifts. Bad idea.
Glad Too Help!!!

Hi Everyone

I called the Chevy dealership and apparently no one in their service department has any info how to install the GM upshift kit
Part# 8673948. Does anyone have any info on the Police Caprices built in 87 up. These cars have the GM upshift kit #8673948.

BTW, the B&M upshift kit only has one part... an aluminum sleeve whereas the GM kit comes with 5 pieces.

Anyway I sure appreciate everybody's info and I thank all of you.

and Probilt Automatics.

Hey TOmP,

The link you sent finally worked for me and guess what?!?! This particular upshift kit part # 70249 appears to be identical to the GM Kit http://www.bmracing.com/bmframe.htm

Now I understand the confusion people have between kits being the same and not the same. For people who bought a DOWNSHIFT kit from Jegs or Summit, you only got a TV SLEEVE and nothing else.
THESE KITS SOLD IN JEGS # 013070237
OR SUMMIT #BMM-70237 ARE NOT THE SAME AS THE GM PART # 8673948 or the B&M Part# 70249

I'm sorry for being so redundant but I wanted to clarify this.
So NOW we know there are actually 3 types of kits available (exluding the valve body transgo kit). LOL! We better Post something about the different kits available before whooping and yelling starts to happen on this board!

BTW, does anyone still have the instructions handy for the B&M type # 70249.

Thanks for the link TomP,

Eddie

Well It looks like B&M has their part numbers all messed up too!. In their website if you click on "Transmission Shifter & Drivetrain Products" and then go right under "Street Transmission Products" they have a picture of the exact same kit that GM sells. BUT B&M's Part number doesn't match the kit. It's the same dang part# for their cheap A** TV sleeve! This is because I just found the package that my TV sleeve came in and I was PI$$ED to see the same
# 70237!

I'll give them a call and ask what's going on with their advertisement. SHEESH!

Well Good News,

I called B&M and informed them and they are taking care of the error. They are sending me the instructions. As soon as I get it I'll send it here.

Later,

Eddie
