700R4 rebuild lits
i'm looking at a couple rebuild kits from http://www.hptransparts.com/
either the $150 or the $175 rebuild kits.what do you think about these?they are raybestos so i know it's a good brand.but do you think that's a good price a for a 700R4 rebuild kit?

I purchased a kit from them... The alto red eagle kit with kolene steels. You need to realize for a 'full' rebuild you need the steels and band, also the paper and rubber kit, washer kit, thrust bearings, bushings and changing the sprag isn't a bad idea... ect. They arn't 100% complete. At that price it may only be the frictions. I'm sure they are quality parts. You can get the rest of the parts through them as well. Borg warner hi-energy kits are also high in quality.

Stay away from the Kevlar band, use the Borg Warner Hi-Energy 2-4 band or the redlined band from Alto as mentioned. Kevlar has a poor coefficient properties (poor holding power & it eats the steel drum up). You forgot the Trans-Go Performance Shift kit with both boost valves & Corvette servo.
TransGo Reprogramming kit and the Hi Rev release springs that come with it. TransGo Hi Rev Pump Ring Kit. 4L60E 3-4 pack and Input Sprag Assembly. All Borg Warner frictions. Corvette rear planetary. NEW GM Sun Shell. Minimum endplay settings. Depending on power, 553 Servo or 093 (Vette). .422" PR Boost Valve for small block, .477 for big block or HIGH power small block. .282 Int/Rev Boost Valve. TruCool LPD cooler and bypass the radiator.
The converter choice depends completely on the power band of the engine. Your stall should be at or just below where your engine STARTS to make power and the WOT shift points should be set so that it is completed BEFORE the power starts to fall off (NOT your max RPM). A top quality converter supplier is Continental: The number for Continental Converters in Inglewood Ca. is 1-310-674-1072

IMHO a seven vane pump works just fine when A) the clearances are held to a minimum and B) the TransGo Shift Kit/Reprogramming Kit pressure control system changes are made to the tranny.
I built an '82 700 core (first year for 700's) years ago for a '77 Monte Carlo I had as that was all that I could find at the time. Mind you, in those days people were still taking 700's OUT and swapping in 350's. This had all of the factory weak points, such as the seven vane pump but last I heard, after I sold the tranny after I was done with it, it was used in a truck for 200K and now is going into a hopped up Nova. Save your money and spend it on the TransGo parts instead as that is what made my tranny last so long.

Does the trans go kit have a pump rebuild kit. 10 vanes are fine, but hptranparts only has the 13 kit so I got that. It really doesn't matter, but it's a good idea to rebuild the pump with a fresh slide and vanes, but most importantly to get rid of the break prone stock rings. The kit also has all the dual slide springs and seals. They have the vette servo and accumulator piston kit as a package. It's an excellent deal on it. Change the accumualtor pistons as the soft aluminum wears and the pistons could rock and cause pressure leaks... mine were worn pretty egg shaped at 108,000 miles.
You need to replace the accumulator pins in most cases along with the accumulator piston. The reason for the 13 vane was mainly for noise purposes (it runs quieter & slightly smoother). The 7 vane will for more oil than the others as long as the Trans-Go steel rings are used along with the matching priming spring from Trans-Go.
