JUST GOT A NEW ALUNIMUM TRANS PAN FOR 56.00 CHEAP

i wanted to get an alunimum trans pan so i could just pull the plug to change fluid as well as for cooling. so i went all around and everyone wanted 150-200 for them. that was nuts.
so i thought i would take a chance on e-bay.
this is the link on e-bay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=230323587725.
it came with everything BUT no magnetic oil pan bolt - so i bought one for 3.00.
it came with everything they said. i went to pepboys to buy what i needed. but then i said what the heck, so i got them to drain everything and put in the new filter and change the fluid and got them to put the new pan on instead of the oem one. no charge they had to do that anyway. less than 100.00 for it, and i did not even get dirty. the material would have cost 45.00 alone. so it was a good deal.

i did have one little problem. the 700r4 linkage fits via a piece of metal attached to the trans pan. the rear fit fine but the front of the mount did not fit - the alunimum was too thick and they would have had to put the bolt in at an angle. told them to hook it up but not the front piece, just bolt the pan down and i would handle it.

also found out that water pump was gone - what a piece of crap - i hate oem stuff - only lasted 19 years. so i bought a nice bosch one - high flow - 56.00 including tax - and took it home. cant let pepboys have all the fun.

so for less than 100.00 i got the pan put on, new filter, new fluid, and i got to take a peek under the ride on a rack.

got home and jacked it up undid the two bolts, pulled the linkage bracked off and with my handy drill bit grinder worked on the bracked, took some off there and put it back and worked perfect. bolt went in straight and true and both hooked up perfect.

ok also put on the new water pump and she runs clean and cool.

so if you want a fined well mfg alunimum trans pan i recommend this one. it is made in taiwan, WHICH IS NOT COMMIE CHINA - and their quality control was great. one glitch noted above it nothing and took 5 minutes to fix.

hope this helps someone.

and no pepboys did not screw the car up! i spent as much time under it as the mechanic. they kept throwing me out and i would stand at the door and then walk back in to see what they were doing and why.

Just a word of advice on your new aluminum tanny pan....The stamped steel one would bend but the aluminum one will just crack. I hope you took a good look at the bottom of the old steel pan????

You could have added a drain to your stock pan for $10 and still had a better setup.. Unless you add a higher-capacity pan, moving to Aluminum adds little to no value in cooling..

My $0.02

I believe that is the summit pan. I am running that pan right now. Had the same problem with the shifter bracket and it looks exactly the same except it doesn't have the summit stamp. good deal. I paid quite a bit more then 50 dollars I remember. Only thing that sucked is the bolts they give you are 12 point and 5/16.

well i studied real hard, reviewed the history of japan and china fighting over title to it, read some articles about communist china claiming it as a traditional part of mainland china, read how the people of taiwan feel about coming under the thumb of the chicom mainland, reviewed America's treaty obligations to defend taiwan, and made a politican decision that the desire of taiwan to be free outweighed the political claims of mainland china's 2 billion citizens, and went with NOT CHICOM.
and then there is the fact that taiwan has a reputation for quality work, good metallurgy.
is that what you wanted to know?

good to know. i know its lighter, but i always liked aluminum pans. but maybe i am wrong with running cooler. had a major leak so it needed to be replaced.
but someone said they crack easy - so i will keep an eye on it. i am wondering if it cracks from daily use or cracks if you hit something? if anyone knows, let me know. i have never had that happen in the past but i am always open to learning.

Stock steel pan...Stamped steel=will dent
Aluminum pan...Cast aluminum=will crack

So don't hit anything with it...examples: speed bumps, steep drives & etc. It will not be a minor leak. I know you are going to say you warch for that and don't do it. Thats why I asked, did you look at the bottom of your old leaking pan???
