87 th700 into 92 RS? Please help
Hi guys, I just need someone to help me figure out what I need to swap in a tranny from an 87 IROC th700. My car is a 92 RS th700. My problem is with the tailshaft on the new trans, it has 27 splines on it, does the driveshaft yoke that I will be reusing from my 92 also have 27 splines? Another thing I noticed is that there are actually two different size input shafts in the front of the trans. The bigger one has 30 spline, and the smaller one has 27 spline. Which one determines the torque convertor??? I just want to know all my facts so there are no surprises when I change them. Thanks alot

Jet stage II chip for 305TBI, march under drive pulleys, fabricated "lefty" exhaust, futura challenger tires (police pursuit approved). I maintain the mechanics of my vehicle. I've either replaced or inspected everything. I am proud to say that I have the FACTORY stereo equipment, as anything else as far as I am concerned is stupid and is is a waste of precious voltage. To my knowledge, aftermarket stereo's, speakers, sub-woofers, and amplifiers will NOT make your car faster.

And also, my car uses an electronic speedo sensor, were they electronic or mechanical cable driven in 1987? If the 87 one is cable operated, can I just switch my electric one into the 87? If I had the trans in front of me I wouldn't be asking this question, but it's 50 miles away. Thanks again

Ok, here's the scoop from GM. They say that their replacement transmission for an 87 camaro is the same # listed for my 92. But they also said that an electric trans was not an option that year when I asked them about my electric speedo. So I'm asking you guys again- I KNOW my 92 has an electronic device that has the driven gear for the speedo on one end and a wire harness on the other. This part costs $106 from GM. Will I be able to install it into the 87 trans which IS cable driven? Is this the reluctor you were talking about TRANSFIXLEO? Thanks again for all the help
