305 to 327

Ok I was wondering if it would be a good idea to keep my original 305 block and bore it 60 over and stroke it to make it a 327 stroker engine what do you think about that. Just looking for opinions

Re: 305 to 327

Exactly what kind of stroke are you considering? 305 and 350 share the same stroke. Next common step up from that is a 400 stroke. Using a 400 stroke in a 305 block with a .030 overbore makes a 334.

Simply boring a 305 block .060, providing there's enough metal to allow a .060 overbore, will only make a 315.7 (316)

The 305 has a tiny 3.740" bore. The traditional 327 has a 4" bore the same as a 302 and 350 block. A 327 is a stroked 302. A 350 is a stroked 327.

Re: 305 to 327

Is there anyway I could make a 305 a 327 I got the idea from a family member who has a 75 Chevy truck with a 70 350 Camaro engine and bored 60 over and stoked and it gained roughly 22 cubic inches unless he counted it wrong or something he told me it was roughly a 372 so it gave me the idea to make a 327 out of a 305 since I wanted a 383 stroker but dont have money sitting around for that or a 350 but my family dont want me having a car with a engine that big just yet since its a project going on and is my first car. What are your opinion on what i should do with the engine

There is no way, that's crazy talk. Stroking a 350 isn't even remotely the same thing as stroking a 305. Stephen already told you what you can do with a 305.

If you're gonna build your motor don't bother doing anything with your 305 block. Just get a 350.

I have not been able to get one at all right now have like no money so cant anyway then the fact of finding one used over brand new cuz brand new is pretty expensive when you could buy a used and build up on that cost to what you want

Re: 305 to 327

If you can't afford a 350 then you certainly can't afford to build up a 305.

Is there anything wrong with your 305? Just drive it into the ground and have fun with it. Get some bolt on mods or something.

Re: 305 to 327

The engine is screwed its a project in progress cuz I should be getting a few grand soon so I did not want to drop all on a engine unless it was a build up and all thats why i maybe wanted to keep the 305 and bore it out so it still has original block and all but idk yet i would perfer a bigger engine but I need to find one first

Re: 305 to 327

A lot less than spending the same amount of money to build a 350.
