Ok so I just bought a 200-4R. They are of course, a one peice shell, and my 1989 V8 Firebird has that bar that runs from the transmission to the rear end. This trans. is not from a Turbo Trans AM, its from a 1984 something-or-other.

Is there anything I can do to use this bar and transmission, or do I have to take the bar out of my Firebird, or put the 200-4R into another project?
Any help would be awesome, because I have no F***ing idea on what to do.

The bar is called a torque arm, it needs to be connected to the rear of the transmission. Since the 200-4R does not have a tailhousing, it is a one piece shell (correct?), you will either have to find some way to mount the torque arm bracket onto the transmission (lots of fun lol) or find a different tranny.

And yes, the 200-4R has no removeable tail housing or bell housing.

Ok, well you you know what GM did when they built the Turbo Trans AM, because that's what the TTA had in it (a 200-4R), right? Or did the TTA have a 700-R4?

I have heard the 89 TTA DID have the 2004r but i have
never seen the install. Could fab up a mount to attach
the torque arm to the tranny crossmember instead of
the tranny.

The 1989 Firebird with the GN turbo type of motor had the 2004R in it. Spohn has the setup using the cross member instead of the rear of the transmission.

you can buy kits to mount you existing torque arm to the cross member. or like stated above spohn makes a tubular kits that should work well. their put together well, i just did it to my 700r4 car.

ya i have never really heard of anyone trying to put a 200-4r behind a V8
so i was think about being the first, or most likely one of the first, seeing how spohn already makes a kit for it.

200-4r was used behind quite a few v8s-especially olds
307s and cadi 250s and a few 305 chevys in caprices
I thought about this swap a while back and grabbed a
few 200-4rs at the junkyard,most had worn stator support splines(where the torque converter fits),one
was burnt up because of failed pump(rings that guide
the pump fins broke) and one from an '81 caprice had
a 4-prong drum inside that had stripped splines(splines
were hardened beginning in '82) tranny was made from
1981-90

do i have to get a custom driveshaft? Are the 200-4r's and 700r4 the same lenght or are they different lengths?
