5 speed problems
Since my searches only came up telling me my words were too common I had to make a thread myself... Ok so My 5 speed is a 4 speed now I think I just messed it up but I need some confirmation. I lost first gear(well mainly lost it) When I try to take off most of the time it just throws it back into neutral. If I just dump the clutch most of the time it will take off and not throw it back at me. Problem started when I upped my idle a lil, pretty sure that aint what caused it. So go ahead tell me I raised to much **** and messed up my tranny.

Re: 5 speed problems
You will need to have the transmission looked at. Mine did the same thing and it only gets worse. I finally had to have it rebuilt. I forget the name of the piece that broke but it's the piece that holds the gear in place.

Re: 5 speed problems
STOP using 1st gear, trying will just make things worse, ya don't need it.
You can take off in 2nd just fine until you can pick up a new trans.
That will help in the short run but there is no easy fix but a rebuild or a new/used good trans.

The shift forks in these transmissions are made of cast aluminum and they bend or break if abused. ?They also have plastic inserts that prevent wear on teh fork. These inserts often fall off, which causes some shifting problmems. You might be able to fix it by just removing the tail housing and top and replacing the fork.

http://www.thegearbox.org/home.html is a great place to get rebuild kit, shifter forks, and new gears. Rebuilds aint that hard rebuilt mine, but the problem was a shattered 1-2 shifter fork one side was completely gone and the other side just had half of it remaining im not sure how I was even getting it in 2nd gear

I had a similar problem and it turned out I had broken the stock stamped syncro keys. I had never rebuilt a manual trans but was confident I could. Took a lot of pictures every time I removed a part just in case I need to verify something during reassembly. Installed billit keys and a rebuild kit and have been driving on it for a year and a half or so
