If so, do you have any pics? I'd like to do this. I have the normal Skulte crossmember and my exhaust has literally 2" clearance at the y-pipe. Any help is appreciated.

Since Andris officially closed up SPD, I don't feel too bad about posting these pics.. He used my car for the proto-type SPD double-hump T56 xmem..

I never formatted the pics, just raw as they came out of the camera:

Afterwards, I built and welded up a bracket to it for my Spohn TQ arm:

Mike, do you know what size tubing he used for that? I was going to use flat plate strenghtened by square tubing welded to it but that looks stronger and easier in the end.

It's 1x3" box tubing. Mild steel. The end pieces that bolt to the sub-frames are 3x3 angle steel.

Wow. Very helpful Mike! My plan was to chop up my straight style skulte crossmember and salvage the mount piece as well as the two angle pieces that mount to the subframe. I would like to use anlge iron though. Not sure what your take on that would be?

Re: Has anyone fabricated a T56 "Hump Style" crossmember?

I just called a few places near me and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to get boxed steel so mine my still be made out of angle iron, flat plate, and some small square tubing to brace everything. I may even make box tubing out of flat plate and square tubing. I planned on using 3/16" for the angled pieces and flat plate. The square tubing is thinner though.

Sounds like its going to work out. I don't really have access to tube steel either. I'm curious to see yours when yours is complete!

Also, Do you guys think I can just make one out of 3" x 1/4" flat stock?

Re: Has anyone fabricated a T56 "Hump Style" crossmember?

I used 1/4" plate bent into a squared U around the trans mount... and 1/8" plate for the rest.

Re: Has anyone fabricated a T56 "Hump Style" crossmember?

Alright well it took a lot longer than expected but I said I would post pics when done so here they are. I'm only posting two pics but if you click the cardomain link in my sig and go to page 3, there are a lot more pics of it.

This pic is before welding it all up. I also cut some of the ends sticking out off the crossmember before welding up. The pic above is after final welding though.

Re: Has anyone fabricated a T56 "Hump Style" crossmember?

Its braced on both sides. I have more pics in my T56 swap thread at the bottom of the page. I also have solid motor mounts so its not going to be twisting much anyways. Its also made out of 3/16" steel so its fairly thick metal.
