where can i get a VSS?
for the last 3 days i've been looking for a place that sells vehicle speed sensors for my t-5 and i keep hearing "discontinued", "no longer available", "no part #", etc...Does anyone know where i can get one? i'm compiling parts for a t-5 swap and the trans didn't come with one. i've checked ebay, craigslist, local parts houses, dealerships...you name it i've checked it. any suggestions are greatly appreciated, and if you have a spare to sell would be even better!

Re: where can i get a VSS?
yeah. There are two vss sensors out there. the one for the 700r4 and 4l60 which has a large diameter and the one for the t5/th350/t10/muncie/etc which has the small diameter. If you click the hyperlinked part number it shows all the cars that used it. or go to
chevrolet
1990
camaro iroc-z
electrical
speed sensor
I put one just like this in my 454 T5 swap to plug the hole. I still haven't been able to find driven gears. So if you know where some of those are that would be awesome for my project.

Wow $90 to plug a hole? that sucks. check out post #4 by JamesC, he listed a link there that will take you to a site that has driven gears. hope he has the one you need.

Re: where can i get a VSS?
So far as i know all the gm t5's had the same speedo bullet diameter. If not somebody correct me. Thats the one that fit my wc t5 i bought off ebay.
yeah for some reason the driven gears it shows on this site are the same as the one on the 700r4 vss i still have and they did NOT fit. Too large to go in the hole. I don't want to run a mech speedo but I may have to.....

Re: where can i get a VSS?
I found this in the TGO faq for manual trans swaps "If you car has an electronic speed sensor, make sure you find an electronic speed sensor from a V6 tranny & install it in your "new" tranny or you will stall at every stop being the car will have to "hunt" for an idle being it does not know what speed the car is at."

Re: where can i get a VSS?
can anyone verify this? IMO it shouldn't matter which VSS you have because both send signal pulses to the ECM to determine speed. The only thing i can think of is that maybe the V6 manual trans VSS and the V8 automatic trans VSS have the same pulse rates? if not then maybe the person who wrote the quote didn't put on the right speedo driven gear?
Do my knowledge, the 88-89 cars (maybe earlier to 89) used the 2000ppm VSS whereas the 90-92 cars used a 4000ppm VSS and the wiring connectors are indeed different between the two.
Re: where can i get a VSS?
The signal from the VSS is different on the later cars then the earlier cars, it looks like the year split is 89/90.
V6-V8 makes no difference.
V6-V8 makes no difference.
