Duralast Clutch Kit
I have a 1992 Camaro with 5.0. I'm looking at getting a duralast clutch kit from autozone. Has anyone bought this. Is it decent quality, I hardly launch hard since its my daily driver.

Re: Duralast Clutch Kit
I'm pretty sure that would have lifetime warranty on it, so if it ever goes out you get a new one for free

I ran one for a long time mu- something 64 I think it was. DONT use the bushing that comes with the kit. Buy the HD bushing its like 10 bucks and has a roller baring in it. The one in the kit will wallow out and the clutch disk will not stay flat when you release the clutch

Re: Duralast Clutch Kit
Hey Blown84bird, will this wallow cause a lumpy acceleration/deceleration? I had to rush on the install bcuz i did not have much time + there's a lifetime warranty on the part. I resurfaced the flywheel but still get a jerky acceleration. The clutch has to be adjusted too since it grabs almost 100% as soon as I let it out so it's difficult to ease up on it.
thanks

Re: Duralast Clutch Kit
i've used a few of them. I had one in my civic, but what can go wrong with a weedwacker motor behind it?
I also had one in my 4cyl ranger, which worked fine, but again, lawnmower motor at best.
Lastly, i put a couple in my 99 Mustang. I'm pretty hard on the car, so i grenaded a few clutches in it's life. The first one lasted about as long as the factory clutch (about 5-6k miles before it blew apart), and the second one is still in there (maybe 9k on it now?). The current one has always had some vibration when i take off in first, which is caused by the flywheel, i believe. I think it got warped/bent when the last clutch blew up.
Just to be clear, these didnt wear out, they had plenty of life left at the point of explosion. I dont really blame the clutch though, and they did warranty it when i brought it to them in a million pieces.

A new bushing shouldn't give you any trouble right off the bat. If the disk is wobbly it will act like it is slipping (cause it is)
Try bleeding the slave and see if that stops your problem.
I know I've never had good luck getting the peddle to "feel" right.
Good luck

Re: Duralast Clutch Kit
Thanks Bird, The part #'s i've used are PK0056 or NU0056. I would have to see the receipt to see which one it is but they both cost the same. I think the clutch is still slipping and slowly feeling like it used to . I changed it because the pilot or throwout bearing was grinding in deceleration while still in gear. The old clutch was really close to being worn down to the rivet anyway. The machine shop said they only had to take off about 5-6 thousandths off of the flywheel too.
thanks for your help

Re: Duralast Clutch Kit
I always get my clutches from Fort Wayne clutch. Usually, they can do a dual friction for around $165 shipped. Be organic on the pressure plate side, and 6 ceramic buttons on the flywheel side. Run them 500+ hp no problems. Night light pedal too.

Re: Duralast Clutch Kit
I have had the same set up since i bought my car back in 2000, but I havent gotten any kind of real miles, but they do warrenty for oddball stuff. My engine blew every seal and got oil all over wearing the disc on the motor side down to the metal. They asked what happened cause they never seen anything like that before, and i just shrugged my shoulders like idk. He was acting like he wasn't gonna warrenty it. They wont hold a 4000 rpm clutch drop, but for just cruising they seem fine. I am going to be trying my new one behind my LT1 to just see what it does since my car isnt a daily driver no more. I rather take the clutch in and warrenty that and it act as a fuseable link than grenade the tranny wit ha good clutch. One guy had a feature car I think in Muscle fords and Mustangs with a twin turbo 302 on his t-5. It apparently was lasting with that set up with the auto zone clutch. I agree with the guy about Fort Wayne Clutch and their set up, or the ram too. Either way you kinda take a gamble upgrading the clutch of tranny breakage if you do any kind of spirited driving.

Re: Duralast Clutch Kit
Thx transamthunder, I might have about 500 miles on the new autozone clutch. I was a bit weary about it at first and kinda still am. The clutch doesn't seem to grab consistently. I can hear it n the exhaust and feel it n the acceleration. Might b a leaky pan gasket or the clutch is still breaking in. I also wonder if a bad input shaft bearing might cause that. I still get a slight grind when decelerating in gear and another slight noise when clutch is engaged but tranny in neutral and goes away when I push in clutch pedal.
Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Duralast Clutch Kit
flywheel is stock, i'm assuming. I've only had the car for about 4 months and it has 200K on it. i'm assuming original engine/tranny but the engine seems to still have decent compression and burns the plugs pretty clean too.
I had the flywheel resurfaced and the shop said they only took off about 5 thousandths and still has plenty material left.
