Put 3:73 but now...

Put in 3:73 in my car and since the speedo is off it can say im doing 120mph when im doing 90 maybe when floored going to 120 it stops and the motor stutters then picks up again to 120 and repeats. Do Camaros come with a speed limiter? It was a 305 TPI swapped in a 350 with stock trans rebuilt with a shift kit.

I believe so. When you swapped the engine, did you change all the chip info, or is it all the same basically?

My TBI did the same thing after I went from 2.73's to 3.73's, only I do about 80 or so and shows 120. It's a PITA.

Dont forget that its not just the speedo thats off. Your odometer is going to rack up the miles faster than it should be. This doesnt matter if you plan on keeping the car, but if your going to ever sell it, it is going to show higher miles than what it actually has. This also isnt a big deal if its only off for a week or so but if your only doing 80 and it shows 120 and you drive like that for a year, your going to rack up 50% more miles than you actually drove.

Re: Put 3:73 but now...

My 91 Z did the same thing when I switched out the 2.73 for the 3.23. I have the electric speed sensor which does go into the computer, so I knew it was coming, but with your car being an 87, ti probably has the speedo cable, that's suprizing. I ended up just getting an adjustment box because I'm sure the 3.23s won't be around long either... I don't think the box will work again with a cable driven speedo, but they may have something a bit easier to make the adjustment aside from switching speedo gears (which is not too difficult as long as you have an appropriate puller)...

I did not replace the motor but had the computer replaced a year ago but idk if the computer is for a 350 or the original 305. The shop i took i was not pleased with (dented my door paid me $700) Are there any tunes or chips i can put in?

Re: Put 3:73 but now...

Change your speedo drive gear to a 15 and your driven to a 45. Then you can do 120.

If you want to break 120, you should be reading the DIY PROM forum on here.
