Ok I'm new to the forum and I have an 85 Camaro and was wondering will a longshaft th400 trans. work in it I've heard it should and heard i won't without some $$ into an cut driveshaft but I thought I'd ask some people that actually own a 3rd Gen.

 

700r4 overall case length is 30.75 inch, th400 cases came in 28.375, 33.75, 37.875 inch. plus 700r4 output shaft is 27 spline and th400 is 32 spline.

 

So i'd have to check the case length?

 

Correct.

 

Regardless of the case length, it CAN work. Will it drop in like factory and everything bolt up? No. You will need a crossmember for the TH400 and you will need a driveshaft of the correct length and with the larger trans yoke.

You will need a cross-member also and you will need a torque arm mount of some sort too. I know from a th350 you will need a drive-line from an 1982 camaro if you can find one or get it cut. There also a good sticky at the top for more information.

 

Ok I live in North Mississippi so being here in the south theres plenty of old junkers to go through and I'm getting the nose of an older camaro so maybe it's an 82 but another thing about the car is the previous owner had a built 327 in it so over years I'm not sure whats original and whats not I guess I'll just have to find out when I get to it LOL!! Not if the TH350 is the 9" version, then you can use the 700's driveshaft
