Car won't shift out of first?? HELP.

I have a 700R-4 Tranny, Automatic. For some reason, (and this started today), when I put the car in DRIVE, in first gear it will just keep climbing in RPMS, (until of-course I let off the gas) then I think it shifts into second. Its strange, I asked my grandpa (who was a mechanic for years) and he asked if it was making any grinding noises, etc etc. It doesn't, it sounds completely normal its just not shifting normally. He said it could be the Tranny Filter, I'm not sure though?

What do you guys think? I really hope this isn't serious, I can't afford a super expensive repair
