drive shaft loop
Does anyone know where I can get a cheap driveshaft loop? I'm going to the track Saturday and I need one to race. Also are they usually weld in or do they have bolt in ones too?
Re: drive shaft loop
Jegs P.N.40732 - 34.99

Hope this helps. YOu can bolt or weld this one in and it will clear the stock torque arm.

Dude....
You will always have to remove the driveshaft to put a safety loop on it. It's not hard. Just undo the 4 bolts at the differential (10mm or 7/16" if I remember correctly), slide the front yoke of the driveshaft into the tranny tail shaft 2", and you'll have pleanty of room to slide the safety loop on. The hardest part will be removing the seats, lifting the carpet, and drilling the eight holes to mount it.
Don't forget to buy the mounting hardware (i.e. nuts and bolts) as they are not included in the kit.

Oh ok thanks man. Yeah you'll have to excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject. I haven't had the chance to get familiar with drive shafts and rear ends. Guess nows a good time Haha.
But yeah thanks for the info and ill prob end up going with that loop.

The Jegs and Lakewood loops are the cheapest. Just make sure you buy a third gen specific loop and not the generic version. As mentioned above, the hardest part about installing it is pulling the seats and carpet to drill the holes.
Are you sure you "need" one. It's always nice to have a loop. Even my 15 second pickup truck has a loop but it doesn't "need" one.
According to the rulebook, you need a loop if you run quicker than 13.99 and use a full slick. DOT slicks such as MT ET Street etc, are not considered a full slick but some tracks may still say they are. If you run street tires, including DOT slicks, the loop is required at 11.49. When you go that fast, you need a bunch of other stuff such as a roll bar, fire jacket etc.

Well I am going to teh Lapeer Dragway in Lapeer Michigan, and their website says all cars running slicks or running 13.99 or faster must have one. I am expecting the car to run much faster than that lol.

Must be a track rule then that all cars running 13.99 and quicker must have a loop. When in doubt, contact the track and ask.
